What sort of headphone do YOU use?

The Rs-1's I use are for music only. For movies, music and games I use the Jpn's and he90's.

But I to swap between them. the Jpn's are closed headphones. they don;t 100% block out ambient noises but they still do a half decent job. Obviously the rs-1's and he90's are open headphones so they leak a lot of sound in and they leak a lot of sound out.

The Rs-1's I really don;t like for watching movies or games. While their constricted soundstage is not that bothersome during music during games it becomes an issue. Not to mention that the Rs-1's have a unique tone to them which make it less than ideal for games or movies but enjoyable for music.

The Jpn's and he90 I can also use for music as well as the Rs-'s. The jpn's and he90's advantages over the rs-1's is that they are more comfortable.

But given any day I enjoy them all.

I enjoy all type of headphones. I use to be an avid headphone user and use to own a lot of headphones.

I use to Own/Owned:
Grado Sr-60's, 80,125, 225, 325, 325i, 325 (black), Hp-1, Hp-2, Rs-1, Ps-1.
Alessandro ms-1, ms2, ms2i, ms-pro.
Audio Technica's: W2002, L3000, W10-vtg, W10-Ltd, W11-jpn, W100.
Sennheiser:hd600, hd650, he60, he90.
Stax: Omega 2's
Sony: Mdr-R10, also have had the qualia 010 and sa5k on long term loan.

Here a few pics of the various headphones I have owned:

Here the ATw100's and W2002's

That was my Audio technica headphones but I haven't taken a pic of the w11jpn's yet. The above pics of the Audio Technicas are of their full size closed headphone range.

I will post more if anyone is interested.

go for it. Show them all. You must have a lot of money. You should have bought less pairs of headphones, and have loads of money left over for really good amps/speakers/cd players. I am guessing you are about to tell me you have had every high end version of those now too.

Have I offended you in some way?

No I am not loaded. I like headphones of all different kinds by different manufacturers. A lot of people here use headphones with their Pc's or hifi's.

I like any other member has had some experience with amps and speakers and whatnot, whether they are high end is purely subjective. Why would I tell you I have had every high end version of those?

Unless you feel that I am coming across wrong and if that's the case then I do apologise as that was not my intent. I just wanted to share my like of headphones with other like minded users.

Once again I apologise if I came across wrong to you or anyone else.

You don't have to apologise :) the green eyed monster often rears it's ugly head when people post about their, in this case, awesome collection of heaphones.

I'd be interested in seeing and hearing about more.

I use a set of grado Rs-1's, Audio technica w11-jpn and a sennheiser he90.

Stunning collection mate. Don't suppose you have any pics of the orpheus.... ? Headphone porn :D:D:D

I'm happy with my HF-1's and will get them modded by headphile in the new year. I also decided not to get a singlepower PPX-slam jsut because of the shere cost, but my little dot 2+ should be lovely !

adfinni>I have never heard a grado hf-1.

And to be honest I haven't heard a singlepower all that much. I have heard the singlepower sds-xlr and an Es-1. When I tried to listen to the mpx3 on two occasions, the first owner wasn;t around so i couldn't ask for his permission if I could take a listen and the second mpx3 setup had no cd transport so I couldn't take a listen to it. I do hope one day to finally get round to listening to them.

Congrats on your hf-1 and little dot amp.

Hmm my reply vanished  Either way thats an amazing collection of headphones GoRedwings19, thats still nothing if anyone visits headfi forums you can see 100s of guys spending £1000s on there 12-14th pair of headphones;)

I too got my Audio Technics A900s from bluetin recently just got charged like 40 quid for the import tax though:( so headphones were tad pricey @ £160 but there still well worth it and sound better/different in some ways compared to my Senns HD595s, main thing is there closed so dont disturb anyone around me !

My A900s feel so tiny compared to your woodied beauties;)

Yeah I am a member of the headfi forums with the same username as this one. I no longer have the woody collection as I have mostly more or less finished on my headphone journey.

But for many people it has just began.

I never order from places like bluetin or price japan. I find if you ask nicely there are people will would help you obtain the headphones. Thus you might be able to save a few quid. Although that raises questions on how is this doable. You need to establish trust and the person helping you does as well.

Yeah think I spotted u on the For sales forums few times, im RP2X on there myself;)

Are you sure that journey can ever end? guess once im 60-70 and my ears are truely worn out lol, im pleased with my A900s for now still after using Cordless headphones for almost 10 years im finding the ole wire very annoying/I may find myself back on the For Sales forums too;)

I hear you though cos headfiers seem to be constantly changing new cans I too now feel like grabbing my m8s Senns HD595s just to compare/ its possible it sounded a lot better on those perhaps yet at sametime am wondering if Super SQ is what I need!

For me it has ended. I pretty much have heard what I have wanterd to hear. With all the new stuff like the w5000, k701, Gs1k, Hf-1 I just felt it did not interest me. Not because they are not good, far from it.

But more of because I am satisfied with what I got. I mean I use my w11 jpn's for my PC. It won;t beat a orpheus on technical ability but it has a somewhat easygoing sound and I find I like a more relaxed sound. When it time to rock I prefer my Rs-1's.

But you know in my case I don;t actually hear stuff as superior to be quite frank. And I don;t find I enjoy the so called higher regarded headphones as much as another one. I just have favourites. I enjoy them the same amount regardless of price. I think synergy is the key here.

You know some people can stick on a headphone and break it down within 30 seconds of hearing it. The most my ability comes to is whether I like it or not. I am not an audiophille.

You know all these headphones are subjective. Just because it cost a lot and rare doesn;t mean it is your end all and be all. I have found I have more or less liked the lower regarded sibling of the headphone range. Example:

I prefer the Rs-1's to the hp-series or Ps-1 or gs1k.
I like the w11jpn more than the l3k or w5000
I like the sony qualia more than the sony r-10
I like the senn he60 (often regarded as the baby orpheus) to the stax omega 2's

all these headphones are often considered the lesser of their peers. The only one one that i found to prefer from their flagship range is the he90 headphone. But even then you got to realise that a 50/50 chance you will like or hate it.

I find it quite shocking when people suggest it the best headphone in the world as a)most of have never heard it, they are recommending on orther peoples post and the price/rarity thing.

b)the conditions which most people hear the orpheus at a headphone meet is far from ideal. WHen I went to the National headphone meet, the noise there was ear busting. It was like trying to listen headphones during a concert.

The extent of my cordless experience was a set of sony cordless headphones my brother bought he picked up from argos. As long it offered sound and the versatility of not having to tangle with cables and stuff who cared, right?

WRONG. Besides costing him an wallet busting 80 squids it had constant interference problem. In the end end he picked up a set of senns.

i've got some sennheiser HD600's for my hifi and pc and some CX300's for my mps player (pretty good considering how cheap they are).

but i would only use the HD600's if it was late at night - the sound quality in no way near approches a decent pair of speakers.

Wow, you must have some nice speakers :D What counts as decent speakers then? It's just my £800 hi-fi (see sig) struggles to best my £25 Koss Porta Pro + Sony MP3 player  Mainly because speakers have to deliver detail across several metres of air, whereas headphones are an inch from your ear drum.

Maybe it's because I stick to modest volume (8 o'clock position) on the hi-fi.

well, my speakers cost the same as your hifi (got some quad 22L's) :p
it depends on what you feed them with of course.
