Hi Folks,

I have decided to chuck the Mini, but without going into details on what/how im getting, i'm considering going Diesel.

Now my work Journey is 30 Miles a Minimum of 4 days a week , sometimes more, along with about 20 Miles a week personal mileage so if I do a 5 day week, thats the best part of 170ish Miles every week and a bit.

Would you all say this is Diesel territory on the Fuel Usage?

15-20k i would say. I do around this and have saved around £100 a month.

i dont think 170 miles a week warrants it really... unless you dig dervs :p like the 'big barge boys' on here ;)

No. Try 20k a year. 170 a week is like... 8k a year.

Good'o

Petrol it is. Only put 13k on the Car last year and that was with all sorts of runs, plus the run here, so thats good, cheers Fox.

Thats only 9000/10,000 miles a year. Thats not even the average mileage (approx 12k)

Depends what your budget is for a car, but if your going to spend Mini money on a Diesel that its going to take you along time to recoup the money back.

on a 20k mileage i would save about £1000 per year on fuel which would kindof be worth it. Any mileage less than that and I'd say at best it's borderline.

It's less than 9k a year :p

I'd only consider one at above 16k.

I'm kind of on the border at the minute but I'm so lazy I just can't be bothered changing cars. I keep justifying keeping my car because I'm going to start looking for jobs in Manchester. But then I keep putting that off too... :o

depending on the diesel...I would say no.

I dont even think I would do much better swapping my petrol and I cover about 350-400 a week.

i reckon at your kind of mileage at say 40mpg combined in a diesel...you would save under 200 quid a year.

of course if you are getting 55 to the gallon then it might be.

for reference I got 35mpg when I filled up this week. 37 last week. plenty of motorway but also a bit of traffic at both ends. 2L P reg mondeo with 143k on the clock.

It's not another Mini, don't worry, i'm opting for something a little more sensible...

To be honest i'm sick to the back teeth of the thing.. its cost me a lot of money in the past few months and I just want rid..

Dealer said I should get 8k for mine..

I thought Minis had that super service pack thingy?

And *shock* the biggest Mini fanboy is sick of his Mini! :p

More sensible than a Mini 1.6?!

Might as well tell you lol.. i'm quite intrested to see what you all say as a matter of fact.

I'm going for a 1.6 Focus Zetec Climate, Jet Black with most of the toys. Some really nice ones going for 9/10k.

Considered the 1.8 as its the same insurance but i'm told the 1.6 is the better engine.

You made this mistake last time, and you've regretted it since, so I'm going to be all awkward all over again.

Yer figured that but I haven't heard you mention any problems with it so assumed it was the servicing costing a fortune. What's been up with it?

Mainly niggles that have just irritated me, various problems with brakes, constant windscreen chips.. most of it covered with warrenty but the ammount of time its been in to the dealer its un-real.

I'm just seriously afraid something else will really go badly wrong and it will leave me out of pocket... I really dont want to risk it. Its a Friday car, i'm sure :D
