To die by your side......
What is better, rotary or foil? Or are they generally the same?

And no, i don't want this to be yet another thread filled with the same information on razors, i already have a million and a cut throat, they are used when i feel like treating myself, or at the weekend. My day to day 30 second morning shave is done with an electric. My current one is broke, it was rotary, it's the only one I've ever had and I was wondering if there is any difference between foil and rotary.

Foil certainly seems like it would benefit my sideburns as rotary can be awkward to keep straight ending up with my sideburns getting longer and longer every day of the week :p

Experiences?

I have a rotary philips triple head thing, has a side trimmer too, great for sideburns.

I would also like a comparison between these and the Braun foil types.

I have one of those phillips rotary ones that jizzed out the moisturiser:D

Don't use that particular function... But i've had it for over 5 years now, still works just as well. I'm really impressed that it still holds a charge for ages. I can go away on holiday for a couple of weeks and not have to worry about taking a charger. Seems pretty bulletproof really... Go for phillips!

Rotary here :)

If you have one with a trimmer it can chop any hair down to stubble that the rotary blades can nibble away at. So sideburns and holiday beards can't defy you.

Don't like the idea of stuffing moisturiser in a shaver either, unnecessary.

i have the nivea waterproof phillips triple head shaver, got it for xmas. its awesome! use it in the shower, no mess no fuss. it also secretes nivea gel too. i never use this function though.

I used to have an expensive Phillips rotary and was very disapointed with it. I tried a brawn foil type a few years ago and though it seemed to shave better it wasn't a patch on even a quick wet shave. Have they got better recently?

I use the King of Shaves Azor, cuts closer than Gilette, and far less irritation (for me) and the blades are dirt cheap, like £1 each

I use shaving oil with shaving cream on top

I had a philips thing which jizzed out splooge on my face, was rubbish so I got rid of it and went back to the trusty mach3.

My stubble is quite tough and grows in weird directions so don't know if that has anything to do with it but I just find proper razors seem to work better.

I shave twice, once with the grain, once against.

What about the Braun shavers? I have been reading good things about their series 3 and 7 models. Ive been looking at these to replace my gillette fusion.

I got a Braun Series 3 for X-mas. It's not amazing for cutting through thick stubble, not that I expected it to be. It has a seperate sideburn trimmer than you can use to hack off your stubble and then use the regular head to shave.

Gets almost as good a shave as that with foam and a razor though takes a bit longer. I haven't shaved with foam/razor for 2-3 years. I just trim mine back with my hair clippers without a guard so I have a constant shadow.

I shaved right back at X-mas to test it and was happy with the results. Holds its charge for quite a while too. I charged it up around the 22nd of December and other than the proper shave I had, I've just been going around my lips every few days and hasn't indicated low charge yet. Couldn't really go wrong for £50.

Just off to the post office to pick it up. It came earlier than it should have done, so i was out when it came.

I haven't shaved today, so i'll give a full report soon.

It is supposed to charge for 4 hours on its first run, but i had a quick shave of my chin :p. It's really good, the foil feels much nicer on the skin than rotary ones, and it seems to give a better shave.

I'm now having fun fiddling with it and dismantaling it :p
