I'm stuck with 1mb. Our phone line limit is 3mb. I've tried to upgrade but the ISP say that that they cant give us 2mb because our phone line doesn’t have the hardware required, or something. But they can offer us 8mb but the highest speed we would get is 3mb due to the capabilities of the line.

I take it that other ISPs might be able to offer me a faster speed without going to 8mb?

Eclipse flex home 500
Average download & upload for the last 4 months is 80GB/month, but I've slowed down a lot in the last couple of weeks.

Be better posting things like these in their own thread in the right forum, but ho hum:

They "can't give you 2mb" because giving you 2Mbps would mean putting you on fixed rate 2Mbps. Presumably you're out of spec (or the Guesstimator thinks you are) for that (i.e. downstream attenuation >43dB).
It's worth stressing that it's not the ISP being awkward, but it's a BTw limit.

But they can offer us 8mb but the highest speed we would get is 3mb due to the capabilities of the line.

"8mb" = Max, or some LLU setup - it doesn't matter which. No guesstimator, but your line might not hit 3Mbps. It might not go any further than what you've got.

Unless they're LLU (in which case you're "going to 8mb" in the sense of you get a rate adaptive service), any ISP's stuck by the same rules.

How does this compare ;)

2mbit connection. How much I download varies quite a lot month-by-month, but I've downloaded 130GB since April which is an average of ~30GB a month.

My connection at work:

I'm thinking there might be a cap there... on a connection I know does much faster, I still got similar speeds. Maybe hit the sites top limit?

Up from 50 down and 9 up

:):):)

Not too bad for Darwin. Mine is a 100/40 connection with unlimited download. The only place thats maxed my connection would be Steam though, nothing else comes close.

11 years is not bad for a resurrection! Perhaps the poll needs to be updated from having dial-up as an option :D

I've just upgrade to a symmetrical gigabit connection thanks to Hyperoptic. Speedtest gives between 800-900 both ways. Sadly I'm on wireless until wired happens next week!
