As the title really, what sort of system specs, ie. CPU/GFX card do you need to run games (especially FPS games) at a decent frame rate on a 24" TFT... In the process of a new system build, and was wondering if an 8800GTS would cut the mustard at the high resolutions of a 24" TFT...

Thanks for any help... :)

Mostly play FPS games, so frame rates are important, building a new system with an 8800GTS and a Q9450 when released next month... :D

If you're talking Crysis, then probably nothing on earth will manage that, even on high DX9 (forget very high DX10). I know my 512mb GT (probably 10% slower than the new GTS) running crysis in 1280*960 on high DX9 (no AA) was only just above the playability threshold, and 1920*1080 is a lot more pixels (68% more).

Everything else, the new GTS should pull it off I think. Start adding AA and maybe it's more questionable. Varies from game to game of course though.

Of course you shouldn't assume that running the screen in 1680*1050 or 1440*900 will look terrible, I've run my screen out of it's native res plenty of times and it's not too bad for gaming.

i use a 24 inch benq fp241w, cod 4 is my main game i play it at full res and just do without aa/af as for crysis no one can run it my spec is hardly top of the range but i get by ok with a bit of overclocking

Thanks for the replies guys... Once my system build is complete, it'll be time to start saving for a nice 24" TFT... :)

I run most games at 1920, or maybe 1650. I never use AA, since I prefer a higher framerate. The games still look good.

Crysis is the exception. I'll run that at 1600, without any scaling on the monitor.
