Built this rig yesterday:
Athon 64 3400+ (socket 754, with retail AMD heatsink/fan)
Asus K8N motherboard
2x512Mb RAM
Inno3D 6800GT graphics with Zalman cooler
Audigy soundcard
Seagate 7200.10 320Gb drive
Antec TruePower 550w PSU
Cleaned off the heatsink using some Akasa TIM cleaner then applied some AS (the original stuff I had about, not AS5) Hooked it all up out of the case and the BIOS showed the processor at 36C, which I thought was ok. Put it in the case and now the BIOS is showing it at about 60C!
But, in the case I've got 2x21cfm front intake fans, 1x125cfm side intake fan, 1x45cfm rear exhaust fan, and the PSU.
So there should be plenty of airflow in the case. I just can't work out why the cpu is getting so hot. It's not just a reporting problem from the BIOS either as the heatsink is hot to the touch.
Any ideas why it's so hot? Or should it actually run like that?
