What the cat dragged in.....

I had two cats when I was younger, Benji and Tigger. Benji was nearly feral and brought home many, MANY dead / half dead birds and animals to show to us and we would have to pet him and be "proud" of his haul.

In 18 years of owning Tigger, who was lazy as hell - he managed to catch me a used teabag. Never seen a cat so proud of "catching" a used teabag.

He’s found a new lease of life. He has to show off his trophy to you to impress and because he “loves” you. Ours brought in live birds, dead birds, bits of birds, frogs and even live bats. He never grew out of it.

Cats are loopy. We've had frogs, moles, the obligatory small birds, doves (not sure how they get these through the cat flap), next doors leg of beef (on Christmas Day) and once caught the 3 of them trying to take out a pheasant in the back garden. They failed on that count though.

I have three cats, one predictably called Tigger (I know, very creative..) is always catching mice from around the field and bringing it back to me, she yells out - if you can call it that - for somebody to go to her to have a look what she's caught and only then will she tuck in.

One day during England's one week of real summer she caught 10 mice in one day!

My cat has brought home a savaloy, a whole, raw pork chop, and a roast chicken with half the meat still on it.

I think he's realised that dead things are easier to catch and generally much tastier than live things :D Lord knows where he got them from, there weren't any bin bags out on either occasion...

Someone is obviously leaving their kitchen door open. Your cat's going to come home with a sore backside and imprint of a boot one day.

congratulations, your cat is normal.

well, sort of. a normal cat would have brought it into the house :p

Our cat (sadly gone now) once got a full grown wood pigeon. That was quite a funny site as she could barely lift it!
Used to also catch and play with frogs - did you know frogs squeal?!?

Next doors cats have caught squirrels -and not just babies either!

Sounds perfectly normal to me, when we had a cat he used to regularly bring in wildlife alive and dead. Only a few times did he bite off more than he could chew - he brought in a couple of live stoats at separate times, they were a nightmare to catch and release. Even as a kitten he managed to catch a live rabbit and bring it into the house, this would be impressive enough as it was about the same size as he was but to get it into the house he had to leap 3' to the window ledge then another 3' to get in the half open window.

I get around mentioned that his cat took 11 years to become affectionate, sounds quite familiar, mine used to terrorise me as a small child but he did mellow in the final 5 or so years of his life. I still miss the irascible sod sometimes.

One of my cats kept bringing in live, but really shocked mice into our house. I kept having to set the poor little blighters free, much to the dismay of my cat.

Two cats, average around 5 mice/birds/beasties a week depending on weather. Record is 6 different birds in one evening, including a magpie which was still partly alive - not convinced it was our cat that caught it but he did drag it home and climb into the window with the poor thing!

My cat doesn't hunt other animals, he hunts rubbish. Each week he collects Mcdonald's burger wrappers from the street and meows at the window to let him in with it hanging out of his mouth.. I fear one day he will collect a used condom of some sort.

My cats had squirrels before, squirrels make a wierd noise when in distress.
He's bought home a slow worm (I haven't a clue where he got it, rarely see them nowadays) and frogs strangely.
Hundreds of mice and random small birds, few pigeons and stuff.

Biggest thing he had was a full grown crow, saw him catch it in our garden caught it good and proper savaged it, two more crows pecked the crap out of him. He tried to get it through the catflap and failed miserably.
My dad kept it in the garden for a good week to show visitors "look what old tiggy killed"

He's getting a bit older now though so it's basically just mice he brings in now.

My cat brought a mutlated bird back, we live in the country so it got it by itself. It looked chuffed with itself :) Its a wild cat we sort of adopted, so it still appears to have its killer instincts! I was proud of my cat, after feeding it for a year I didn't think it had the edge anymore for a bird.

Our cat used to do this a fair bit, best one was bringing a frog into the front room once. Saw her jumping about around the telly, losing interest and walking out, only for a frog to start hopping it's way across the rug. Very funny. :D

Ginger (Male) bring in stuff all the time. Over the years we've had rabbits of all shapes and sizes, including one that I swear was domestic, squirrels, birds, mice and a sheep's head.

Our eldest female, when younger, brought in a disgusting mangy rat that shrieked at us until we managed to get it out of the house by whacking it with a broom. She has also brought in moles and various birds of all breeds.

Our younger female is the most entertaining. She will appear at the cat flap shouting at us until we investigate what treasure she has brought us, which usually turns out to be an interesting leaf, twig, piece of paper, feather or piece of sheep's wool. She has only brought in one animal, a little mouse, which she was petrified of.
