It still is if you don't use Google for everything. The whole point of Google is to gather as much information as possible on as many people as possible and use it.

I use Duck Duck Go for searching - that's a search engine that is a search engine. Not a data gathering tool. Not a way to steer people into seeing an ever-narrowing range of opinions or to advertise at them. A search engine and only a search engine.

I use Firefox for browsing, with some security and privacy addons, because it's just a web browser.

I use Thunderbird for email, with several different email addresses for different purposes.

If you want to have everything you do tracked, analysed, cross-referenced and used against you, you can. If you don't want that, you can still, for the time being, avoid it quite easily.
 
Use incognito if you don't want your history stored.. Or.. delete your history? They do it to make changing between devices easier.. its actually a great function.
 
This is handy when researching travel routes on my home pc before a trip - everything is there on my android phone for navigation!

As for logging into a personal email account on a work machine.. No way!
Just nip out and use your phone!
