Right,

Fresh install of XP, then installed SP2. Upon reboot I get the "BOOT DISK FAILURE. INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" message. Mess around with a few things including BIOS and leads and whatever, but in the end decide to reformat and reinstall. I delete the partition it was on, but when i go to create a new one it says the max I can have is 131060!!!!!

WHAT!!?! WHHHAAATTT?!?!?!

Please help.

You need at least SP1 integrated onto the XP install CD to allow it to recognise partitions larger than 132Gb.

I don't need to install any fixes before sp2 do I? I seem to remember there were one or two? one with net in the name?
No you can install SP2 without integrating .Net. However, rpstewart is quite right. You WON'T be able to expand the partition later, you'll just be able to add another partition. Slipstream SP2 into your XP disk using nLite and do it properly.

Well everything is working now.

Now to utilise the rest of the drive! How do I create another partition without touching the other one? And are you SURE you can't expand/extend the existing one? I could have sworn i've done it before!

Cheers
Chris

Update Windows so SP2 is installed, at least.

You then need to go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Storage -> and then Disk Management. You should see the unallocated space below your other drives which you can right click on and allocate.

The only way to expand/resize partitions is using a third party disk management suite such as Partition Magic. Slipstreaming SP2 onto a CD is the best option though.
