What the most moddable car for under 2k?

[blah blah blah]LADA!!
There's an idea. Buy a Lada Riva. That leaves you £1950 to spend on coil overs for each corner and a Fiat twin cam to sit up front. Hell, you'd probably even have change left for to buy some bucket seats or a huge sub to stick in the boot or something. Certainly modable and might stand out from all the french hatch backs.

You could probably find a nice, well looked after Renault 5 GT Turbo for £2k. It'll almost certainly be modded too so you're off to a good start.

Check the owners clubs for one that's got good history if you can.

I'd certainly be looking at forced induction for easy and cheap modifications. Fiesta/Escort RS Turbo, Renault 5 Turbo, Nissan 200SX would all be right up the list.
The Mi-16 205 idea is easily doable for the money but limited with what you can do after that without huge expense.

burns is right....

why buy a chav motor when a proper mini or escort mk 1/2 will give you far more modability for a lot les money....

the trouble with jap car modding is that most of the bits have to be imported...
"Chav motor"?

Okaaay.....put it this way, any highly modded Escort or Mini, whilst hugely appealing, will be a complete basket case for 2 grand.

How about some italian horses.

something that would put me off is the "british racing green" and picture of a blue car ;)

Tom.

as said before, turbo'd jap car would be my choise. The 300zx i wouldn't bother with however mainly due to the dificulty of working on the tubo area of it, otherwise i love them :)

S13s proberbly your best bet, with a fuel pump, spark plugs, boost controler and a volvo intercooler you can happily rase the boost to pretty interesting levels :D

your asking for a cheap motor, i take it you have the money to support the car and insure it?
wouldnt want you to buy a car you like for it to then go bang when you mod it :<

Oh yeah, this is purely a toy, im having a company car with a fuel card you see.I was going to buy a house but it fell through, so im putting it off for a bit, also im travelling loads for work too so i dont see the point in spending 200k on a house and only living in it for half of a year!

Im quite liking the idea of the fiat coupe actually something a bit different.whats the modding potential and parts availability like?

So far its looking like (anymore to throw into the pot.)

200sx s13,200sx s14,fiat turbo,R5GTT, HMMM decisions decisions.

charade gtti, tons of tuning parts, rock solid engine, forged internals as stock, can run tons of boost and sounds amazing. rock steady 150 bhp at 15 psi can be done, or even taken upto 200 bhp. plus they weigh about 800 kg :o

oh and as standard 0 to 60 7.9 seconds, top speed 116 mph

Depends what you mean by modding.
If you want to put a big stereo in it, a 306.
For straightline performance, a 200SX or similar makes a lot of sense.
For trackwork, not sure that the 200 would be the optimum choice. Yes it's rwd, can be rather powerful, but it's also rather heavy (S13 = 1100kg+ if I remember correctly).
For track work, might be better to find a 7 copy which might not be fast in a straightline, but would be pretty good on a track.

Yeah its most likely going to be for trackwork, done the stereo thing already!

Somebody at work has just planted a kitcar idea in my head hmmm.

Didnt realise the s13 was so heavy, i know the s14 is a bloater.

Nice cars, good luck finding one though!!

My mate had two of them, blew them both to bits by running 15psi on them though.
