What thing did your parents say to you when you were younger that you didn't believe but now completely understand that they were right?

If you pick crappy friends, you become crappy too.

Pay attention in class. Learn as much as you can while you're there and you too can be disappointed at how stupid the average adult is.

Never, ever date a man under the assumption that you can change him. You can’t. And too many women fall into that trap. If he’s an ass now, he’ll be an ass later. A ring or a baby or whatever else you might think can change him won’t change him. This obviously is gender neutral and can apply to anyone.

I trust you, just not other people

I would be a millionaire if I listened to my mum about saving a portion of every paycheck and never touching it.

Should have gotten involved in some kind of sport in school. Or just hit the gym or went for a run – look after your health and fitness. "If you don't take care of your body now, you'll regret it later."

Not everybody has a straight, clear path. Some people have to wander to get where they need to end up. You'll be fine.

“Life isn’t always fair but how you deal with it affects you and your mental health”

Always keep control of your finances. No one is 100% trustworthy.

Treat everyone the same: from the janitor to the boss. No one is special or better than others.

i never listened to my mum when she said finish University. i'm in my 40s now and i don't have a degree and now i have kids. i realised how right my mom is and is wish i would have listened.

Get 8hrs of sleep, but don’t sleep your life away.

Anyone got any others?

I’d like to add something the other way around; something my parents said that I believed that turned out to be false.

“Mum… if you try really hard and train, can you levitate up into the air?”

“…….. yes, I think so.”

“Wow!”

I think i mostly learnt what not to to from my parents.

Not to have a big house and garden: just a burden as you age
Not to have too much "stuff": same as above
Money ≠ happiness: family ruined over inheritance
Don't mix business and family!

Those are probably the big ones
