What thing did your parents say to you when you were younger that you didn't believe but now completely understand that they were right?

My dad:
"Vests and pants.
Son, people will always need vests and pants."

Cheers dad.

These are a couple of things that never left me from my early years, I’m not sure why they stuck so well, but they are always in the back of my mind when the situation calls for it, just a couple of ‘normal’ men who I look upto, giving me what I think is sound advice

From my old man - “if you lie once you’re going to have to lie twice”

From my grandad - “if you plan to meet someone at 12, arrive at 11:50”

"You will go blind if you keep doing that"

Now as an adult I can safely say they were not right. I mean I do it every day almost and can see just fine?

Playing video games close to the screen has not affected anyone!

My dad always said “make sure you always buy good shoes and a good bed ‘cause if you’re not in on you’re in ‘tuther”

My dad would say ask your mum and my mum would say ask your dad, then I'd nick 20p from her purse and go out on my bike for 16h.

Can't actually remember any real advise my dad gave me, not that he was a bad dad, just a different generation, not very talkative, emotionally restrained.
My mum either tbh.

This explains a lot of things.:p

"School is the best years of your life" or something along those lines

My parents are lovely, but the OP post feels like some kind of Hollywood cliché to me and I cannot relate.

I grew up in Northern England in the 80s, maybe that's it.
