Not the two m6 screw fixings. It's the single large underside bolt I'm trying to find the thread size for. M12 or M14 i've been told but I'm not sure which , if either , is correct.
Anyone know for sure, please?
Thank you.

Yes, the large single bolt. Not the two m6 bolts that sit side by side.
I have a shifter which is missing that bolt.

Do you know anyone with a vernier caliper?

Or can you buy one?

Or the best option, just buy both bolts, they'll only cost a few quid at most.

No vernier caliper. Could get one , I suppose. But for single use, Is it worth it? Would it measure the female thread size? Thought maybe forum users might know the thread size.
Yeah, I could buy both but might find they are both wrong. :)

*ordered*

Probably a stupid question but do you know how to use them? I went for over a decade not knowing some of their features, when someone showed me it was quite possibly the biggest penny-drop moment in history :p

I need to clean mine up actually, not used it in a while.

I’ve never used one, I’ve been meaning to get one for a while and no doubt, when it turns up tomorrow, I’ll be measuring everything I can get my hands on, just to try it out.

They're such simple yet powerful little tools. You can measure external diameter, internal diameter, depth and also use them as scribes. Loads of guff on Youtube but I've proof watched this one for you :)

He has some Mitutoyo, they're the dogs ******** and probably don't change their zero every time you go back to the start like the amazon jobbies :D
They are really expensive though!!

I still have mine from when I went to technical school, still in its little wooden box, next to my Mitutoyo micrometer, also in its little wooden box. They're still perfectly functional despite having been treated like a 15 year old boy would treat his stuff. I'd like to get the micrometer calibrated as I seriously question its accuracy but I don't measure anything to justify it any more sadly. I miss my old machine shop days but the money in that is very limited sadly.

I don't think either Feek or Baldbloke could justify a Mitutoyo though, they're designed for professional use and are way overkill for a hobbyist.

Still, a basic one is less than £35

Dammit. Now I'm trying to justify buying more toys :(

Digital calipers are pretty self explanatory and most will switch from metric to Imperial scales. Vernier calipers like vernier micrometers are a little trickier, although not hard if someone shows you the way they work. But the OP really needs a set of thread gauges as well, which are VERY cheap off Ebay, get Imperial and metric, either separate or combined. A must have if you want to check thread sizes and forms.Ultra simple to use.

These would cover pretty much any thread anyone here will need to measure / check unless you are a watch maker or building bridges:

I can justify anything, link?

Well, this thread prompted me to dig out my trusty old Mitutoyo and give it a thorough clean. I think this is the first time it's ever had a clean. It even still has the little label on the back with my name on it from school, albeit faded completely.

I was honestly expecting a full artisan-style teardown and cleaning with little brushes and whatnot, like those Youtube vids of people restoring things.

It took 5 minutes, what an anticlimax :p
