What to do, what to do...

Well, I've just been sworn at, yelled at and threatened that if I don't play by their rules, and I quote, "they'll make my life a living ****ing hell".

Union is involved. I've got a few options lined up, but I'm thinking of going straight to the top and putting this all in writing.

They're obviously advertising for a position in the group as a colleague or manager, which the OP has mentioned to his boss.

Boss has hit the roof because it was either a) supposed to be confidential or b) means that the OP could have a shot at being his equal or peer.

No advertisements here. If we want to see what vacancies are available, we need to seek them out ourselves.

Burnsy > I stood up for myself and didn't let them walk all over me.

I have the whole conversation recorded too.

You have them threatening to "make your life a living ****ing hell" on recording?

Yes sir.

EDIT: I record these conversations purely for myself however, they were not aware that I was recording anything.

That may sound like I'm being a bell but this is the ony company I've ever worked for where I need to do things like this. It's all lies and deceipt here.

Aww Diddums!

:p

"Deceit" Is the word you're looking for by the way...

Bloody hell. I've just gone through a rather traumatic experience, shirley I'm allowed a typo? :p

Edit: Crap. Just spotted another one.

Words is hard :(

I don't see why not - in a court of law maybe not, but you have evidence of threatening and abusive behavior at work.

There are good and bad ways to stand up for yourself though.

So really useful for personal re-enjoyment of the event but otherwise futile and pointless?

I can't imagine HR would take a particularly high view of supervisors / management behaving in such a manner, whether it would stand up in a court of law or not.

Recording is a bit naughty at face value, but if it actually reveals wrongdoing on a grander scale, then the juice is probably worth the squeeze. You can always dress it up as 'I know it was naughty but I saw no other way of justifying my position'.
