What to do with £1000

Do you mind losing it (in a worst case scenario)? Obviously you don't want to, but will it effect your day to day living if you do? If not, and it sparks you interest, then learn a bit about share trading and trade £200-300 here and there. That's exactly what I'm doing with a spare £1k at the moment.

invest in gold? i hear tell that the price of gold is looking to skyrocket soon and those with stocks of bullion are likely to make out like bandits...

you can buy just over an ounce of gold with your grand and that's an investment that's never going to lose its value :)

the exchange-rate on gold at the moment is about £871.7 : 1Oz, and most bullion-sellers are offering ounces for about £903, and it's vat-free too, which is certainly convenient.

Is this being profitable so far for you? This is something I am going to read up on as it was a consideration, but I really have no idea where to start. Still we all have to start somewhere don't we.

Thanks

At the moment, yes, but I lost £1,000 at university (semi-intentionally) and that was my learning curve.

If you're interested then best to ask here for help/guides/etc :).

invest in a weekend away to amststerdam could possibly be the best investment you'd make

You could always buy shares, I hear that Japans share prices are on the rise particularly in construction now that they are rebuilding from the earthquake and tsunami

Forgot to mention, take a look at www.bullbearings.co.uk. You can set up a virtual trade account so you have £100k to trade. It's a good way of learning the basis and even thereafter learning trends and what to look out for etc.

Paying off £1k of your loan/credit card will probably save you more in one month than an entire year's interest in an ISA, so it's still worth it even though it's the boring option.

In the meantime read up on share dealing and start trading virtually on Bull Bearings so when the time comes you have at least an ounce of experience.
