What to do with 25k

You should have a stocks and shares ISA invested in an global index fund, for all of the money after paying off your debt.

Dont know why people are trolling the OP though, he obviously knows the will as his granddad has told him, he told him so he could plan something.
Yep got a global index with about 2.1k , if i add another 10k will it start giving me back a certain amount each month? If the markets are + of course. Looked today and its currently -1.25%

How old are you? If you’re putting it in a S&SISA you probably better just putting it to automatically re-invest the dividends if you’re youngish.

As an aside not everyone leaves the inheritance until they've passed away - my grandad is in his mid 90s and is in the process of giving about half of it out now.

exactly, well put

we all know nothing, we do not know the OP, nor his family, circumstances etc etc

if it was me, i wouldn't be on here asking what to do with it anyway, but that's me , not the OP

Death and inheritence still taboo I see

If your family have told you how much they are leaving you when they die, what's wrong with wanting to plan how to secure it and grow it, especially when you know their time is almost up ?

Have to say the grandad may be a very practical person and would want the op to be thinking about it?

Especially if it's an inevitability that's been coming a while.

But probably would have left the details of where the money was coming from out of the post.

But we don't know the relationship between op and grandad

I actually don't know what I'd do with it. Might be a nice thing to spend some on something you'd like to remember him by if you were close.

In terms of investment? Not sure.
I have some spare cash too now(if I get a job soon) that I really don't know what to do with either.

Kudos for planning to use the money wisely.

Inheritance from a relative is always a difficult thing emotionally, but it is a lump sum, and requires considerable thought to ensure it is not wasted. Its the least you could do after the years it took your relative to save it, and want to pass it on to you.

I am frankly baffled by some of the responses here.

It requires thought once it happens, what requires thought right now is how he looks after a family member who is clearly unwell.

I can see where some posters are coming from but I think they are making large assumptions with little information. We don’t know how large or small this family is, we don’t know the OPs relationship with his grandfather and most importantly we don’t know how OP deals with stress and/or grief.

Some people do like to distract themselves from grief with other things. Could be what the op is doing but i don’t know him so I can’t say with 100% certainty.

Wouldn’t you think it respectful to wait until he’s actually passed to plan what to do with his money?

I’ve been told a couple of years ago i’d be getting the money so i’ve already thought about it a little bit but no concrete ideas.

It doesn’t mean i’m not upset about him being ill. We have a good relationship and i’ll be really upset when he does go, i hate seeing him in hospital l as i know he he hates it. But its the best place for him at the moment.

The full reality of the situation hasn’t sunk in yet but it will do soon.

But at the same time i can’t help thinking about what i would do with the money. If that makes me a bad person then so be it.
