What to do with with intel prices?

Looking up gaming benchmarks from the 2700X and the 8700K with a 1080(which is the card I’m getting in my upgrade).. the only difference I am seeing is 10 and occasionally 15 fps...

I’m not starting a debate but rather genuinely asking.. In regards to gaming is this what intels defence is? 10-15 fps?

Well if the prices right now are anything to go by then i won’t be purchasing any of intel’s 9th gen.. And reports that I’m reading seem to think this price spike including the 8700K will easily lead into 2019..

I’m not the sort of person that needs 200 fps on ultra High settings @ 4K, but 60fps on most current games on high settings @ 1440p is the goal.

Well as mentioned, if you game at 1440 and you're happy at 60 fps. You won't see a difference between a 8700k or 2700x. Other than better multi tasking with the 2700x

Here's an odd solution for you, while you come to terms not getting what you want for as cheap as you would like it.

Buy the following:

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 2600 3.4GHz 6-Core Processor
Motherboard: Gigabyte - X470 AORUS ULTRA GAMING ATX AM4 Motherboard
Memory: Team - Vulcan 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory

Total Cost - £399.96

Stick your GPU in there, and play happily in 1440P for the next year all for less than the cost of the 8700K, but have the same number of cores and threads for all of your multi-tasking needs. When the time comes, and after Ryzen 3xxx CPU's are launched on 7nm, and assuming they live up to the hype (there will be hype :D) you can lob in a 12c/24t beast for about £400 (probably).

Alternatively, don't buy anything now other than a 4770K/4790K and hope it hold its value until you get a chance to sell it next year when prices start to normalise again with Intel.

@Journey I was never looking anything cheap, like everyone else I just want it at a normal price lol

But yes.. the more I look into it that’s quickly becoming the juicer option

I never said cheap, I'd categorise it as good value solution that will show very little in the way of draws backs even compared to an 8700K build. If you had said you want to game at 165+ Hz, using a 2080TI now then I'd say suck it up since you've already been rinsed for a 2080Ti. :D

EDIT: Since it looks like you are buying a GTX 1080, then I see no great problem saying you'll see almost no benefit getting an Intel system, especially at 1440p since you are going to be GPU bound for the most part.

What’s the rumoured release date of Ryzen 2? I know it’ll be 2019 but I’m just wondering if it would be wiser to get the 2700X instead if the 2600X IF I was to go Ryzen.

@SiDeards73 what games do you play and at what settings and do you run into limitations caused by your Ryzen CPU? Be honest now :p

do you mean what games did i play that my 4770k didnt feel as good as my Ryzen? well The Division for starters, feels much better on my 1700 than it did on my 4770k, i play FF14 and WoW also and both feel smoother, also Grim Dawn i dont get any stutters like i used to on my 4770k. I play everything on Nvidia Optomised via their GeForce Experience thing, i just let it optomise the game settings for me as i run a 1070, i have a 1080 waiting to swap in but i cba at the moment to take the side panel off the PC to do it lol.

1H '19, but that probably means Q2, with June paper launch being the mot likely scenario given the new process node, and the fact they are going to now be supplying a lot more CPU's than anticipated due to the Intel 14nm shortage. Not to mention if they commit more of the TSMC time to Epyc 7nm for the commercial/data centre where margins are much higher.

I don't think so. They have been "Sampling" for a long time now and are already in production. It wouldn't surprise me at all if we have them available at retailers towards the end of April next year. Don't forget, us as retail consumers get what isn't good enough to go into Epyc.

I'll go and buy a hat and eat it if there are any consumer chips in April '19. :D

My main point was AMD's had now an unexpected demand vs. the projections of growth they would have envisaged, and therefore will need to accommodate that which may mean a delay in rolling out the newer CPU's as fast, due to keeping the supply chain fulfilled. The 1H '19 may indeed slip into 2H '19 for physical CPU's but there's no harm in them doing a limited paper release in June to stick to the schedule.

Lol.................................are you seriously expecting me to believe that you havn't already got a hat that you havn't had to have a good few "nibbles" at over the years Journey ? :D

Nope, that hat has now gone, it was eaten along time ago. :p

I know the 8700K is better for gaming and single core usage, but from the benchmarks I’ve saw compared to the 2700X it’s only by 10 fps or so, or else is there something else it does that I’m missing?

I know for the fps junkies this is a must but when the 2700X is constantly hitting over 100fps in games anyway, I couldn’t give a fiddlers if it’s a 100 or 110 fps?

How about this:

Buy Intel i7 & GTX 1080, great gaming performance
Buy AMD 1700 (overclock it) or 2700X and with the money saved by buying AMD, you can upgrade to a 1080Ti for no extra overall spend.

The end result is the AMD system will give you far greater FPS due to having a 1080Ti rendering the graphics over the slower 1080.

I am sure you have seen our Gigabyte £579 GTX 1080Ti deal, we've now nearly sold 600 units!

This is what many of the folks here is trying to get over to you. ;) The cost that you will be incurring for those extra fps, when a 2700X is still going to get you over 100fps is simply not worth it to the majority.

Plus you have the bonus of better multitasking should you need it for the odd task down the road. I know where my hard earned cash would be going. Looks like that 10% chance is creeping up. :)

Okay thanks guys I’ve got some rethinking to do.. I might give Ryzen a chance.. I had the worst experience with a Radeon 280x and never wanted to think about AMD again but.. idk I’ll defo have an open mind toward this situation. Intel is just not within my financial capabilities right now, not with those ridiculous prices.

I’m gonna stick with the 1080 as it’s more in my budget but also whilst that gigabyte 1080ti is a great deal, there are a few things I don’t like about it. On top of that I’m going for an aesthetic build and I’ve had my heart set on the EVGA 1080 FTW edition for some time now.

Why not pick up a S/H x99/5820k. They are going for around £200/£250 6Cores - 12T more Pcie lanes quad channel memory the majority clock to 4.5Ghz easy and the J batch Cpu`s will go higher.
