Hi

I'm thinking of getting a new car (Suzuki Swift) and want to part-exchange my VW Lupo. I'm taking my car to the dealers tomorrow and to test drive the Swift, but I'm not sure how much to expect for my Lupo..

Please give me a rough idea what it'll be worth - I got it brand new in Feb '04 (53 plate) for around £8k, E 1.4 manual, metallic/pearl paint (Grey Anthracite), done around 10,600 miles, got quite a bad scratch on the front bumper and two little dents on the roof (no idea how that happened...) it's all standard, no central lock etc except for a cd player.

So, how much do you reckon my car is worth?

No central locking etc and you paid 8 grand for it?

You realise you can get cars which actually have kit in them if you don't keep buying new ones :D

Anyway, your Lupo is worth a touch over £4000 in part exchange. Blimey, half what you paid :(

I really do regret getting the Lupo for 8k... I have no electric windows either!!
Instead of getting metallic paint I should've got central lock, but my dad said its pointless as its only a 3dr and I hardly have any passengers in my car.

3/4k sounds about right, my dad thought it'd be worth about 2k

Also just my opinion, but I looked at the new Swifts for my GF as an alternative to a Mini and I was surprised how expensive they are.

Personally, I'd go for a couple of years old Mini than a new Swift. I would say the Swift is going to depreciate very quickly.

Don't want to lose more money again ?

Blimey, if you can get a BMW cooper for that kind of money for the swift the choice is blindingly obviouse.

The Swift is meant to be excellent - if you want a car with some space, go for it.

If you never want to have anyone in the back, go for a used MINI.

The mini isn't all that bad in the back, the bench is very deep so it looks like there's no legroom, but it doesn't have a problem with 2 6 footers in the back.

Who's in the front though? When I sat in one, there was a terribly small amount of room in the back for the size car..

Just came back from the dealers, they quoted me £3700 for my Lupo..
The Swift I want is the 1.5 glx automatic - OTR price £9824. The only other options I want is metallic paint and spoiler and he said he can offer me:

£10,424 OTR inc metallic paint, spoiler, oh and some free mats... thats £3800 given for my Lupo meaning I pay £6624 in total. I know he can offer much better, but how do I go about it? :p And I'm so clueless with cars, how much discount is considered as good? I was thinking of trying to make him knock it down to £6400....

I don't want to get a used car btw, not because I'm too good for used cars but more the fact that I don't want the hassle of having no warrenty or all the paperwork/MOT etc.. I wanted to get the Mini before I noticed the Swift, but even a used Mini One is quite expensive.. Besides, the Swift comes with a lot more as standard compared to the Mini One: swift_equip

Not much of an upgrade really is it, and for 6k......

Can i ask why you want a new car, for only 5k miles a year you do why dont you stick with the lupo for a while yet before you go spending a load more on a new car.

An automatic one at that.... :o

Does it have to be an auto or is it just your preference? Saying that, I drove one of those funny Vauxhall Shoeboxes (is it the Agila?) with a 1.2 (?) and auto box and the little box was actually alright - really impressed me anyway, was about it mind!....so maybe this one is too :)

Has to be a automatic because my sister struggles with a manual..
So lets say that I buy the Swift, how badly will it depreciate? In 3 years time will it be worth £3k or not even that?

I guess the main reason why I don't want a used car is because I don't know how to look for a good one.. I don't know what I need to look out for and also I find it hard to trust people unless I know the person who I'm buying the car from.. and those 'approved used cars' which you buy from the dealers are not *much* cheaper than a new one.. I duno
