Hi

I have a asus P5qpro turbo and a e8500 cpu have overclocked cpu to 3.8 (400 x 9.5). Currently i have the memory at 1:1 but my memory is 1066 corsair balistix mem. Is it best to select this speed in the bios or leave at 1:1. I noticed on CPUz the SPD settings but when I looked in the bios I was unclear as to what setting was what. Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers

Hang on, so if your Memory is stock 1066MT/s then it's real clock is 266.5MHz

Thus if your DRAM:FSB is on a 1:1 ratio then your stock FSB would have also been 266.5MHz thus overclocked to 400MHz means your memory is running at 1600MT/s?

Which is much higher than 1066MT/s so it's already overclocked as much as it can possibly go, and which somehow doesn't seem right...

What manufacturer and type is your CPU?

sounds like your ram is running at 800mhz at the moment

1.1 ratio is the minimum you want, if your ram run any slower it prob create a bottleneck

setting the ram at 1066mhz should give it abit more head room.

i might be wrong since i'm no expert at this and also slightly confuse at what you are saying.

If your FSB is running at 400mhz then your RAM will be running at 800mhz. Best to leave it at this speed unless you can change the multiplier to 1:1.33 or something close to that to achieve the 1066 speeds.

Thanks for the replies

There seems to be a difference of opinion that running in sync i,e 1:1 or setting ram to max FSB with multiplier in my case 1066 is the best option. My motherboard has the ability to just select the max speed of the ram but some say a ratio of 1:1 is best? Interested in thoughts about this

its because the next level up is likely too far and will likely overload the ram :P

selecting a higher ram speed wont make the cpu you work any faster so there is like no gain.
but leaving it at 800mhz can may be get a better latency out of the memory than running at higher speed.

most of the time if your memory run slower than the marked freq you can get better latency.
