what to upgrade first ?

currently have an e8400, 4gb ram, 8800 GTS 512mb

looking to get a dx 11 card and windows 7 but should i be upgrading the cpu/mobo (possibly ram) first ?

i have a very similar setup and am in the same postion, personally i think i'll upgrade the graphics card first to a 5770

gfx will be your cheaper option so I would go for that first and save up for the cpu mobo later

I agree that its the gpu holding you back. The cpu and ram should serve you a very long time

the cpu has held up well so far,, 3.6ghz for the past 2 years, never missed a beat (touch wood!)

I would wait until the first week of February as the HD5830 is meant to be coming out then.

every time i have bought a card theres always new stuff coming out

, take it the 5830 is not a top of the range/ price card ?
I've never went for the best of the best with cards, still spent a few hundred, saying that, the 8800 was the first one i was really pleased with, could genuinely play anything

All I know is that the HD5830 should hopefully be under £200 after the usual price gouging at launch.

We should all soon find out in the next few weeks anyway.

A gaming friend of mine has a similiar system and the upgrade he did was 8800GT to HD5770 and he's well pleased!!!!

I would definatley change the GPU first as the CPU is still more than enough for games of today.
