Apart from the mobo which im deffo getting ( p5q deluxe ) what would you upgrade in the rig in my sig?

New case? Currently got a Coolermaster 335 but fancy an antec 600

Blu-Ray RW - 25 - 50Gb backup sounds good to me

Cant think of much more id want as ive pretty much ruled out going for a new i5/i7/x6 rig unless i can pick up a bargain bundle from MM

I'd get an SSD, maybe a 40/60GB OCZ one for around ~£100

About the MB i wouldn't pay for a full one, as although you dont want to upgrade now, you will in the future, look for a second hand one on the MM or the bay.

The only upgrade id reccomend mate, is one youve already planned. The p5q deluxe, best clocking board for s775 cpu's. I had one, great board to oc on.

Yep and i thought that as i was facing a rebuild anyway i may as well get it in a new case :p

What case have you currently?

Coolermaster 335. I didnt really like the Antec 600 until my dad got one and now i want one as it was a great case to work with and looks great in the flesh i thought. Tho i was gutted to be installing his aging socket 939 setup into it :p

A good case can make a difference, i started with a thermaltake tsunami, (an abomination tbh), switched to an akasa eclipse, very good case, only swapped for a Lian Li A70F as i was going to go to a watercooled setup, too much money on graphics cards scuppered that idea.:D

If the board/cpu combo will allow wayne tbh, the op is getting a p5q deluxe, (awesome quad clocking board), a lot of q6600's will not clock high, particularly last run chips, i had mine with ocz reaper pc6400, rated at 4-4-4-12, with the q6600 at 9x422 fsb i was running it at a slight oc, timings relaxed at 5-5-5-18.

Theres a lot more memory multipliers than [1:1] sync mate! :D

Very true wayne, but off topic, i cant access the forum now using firefox, had to use IE.?

EDIT: FF working now.

Does it matter how good a particular cpu/board combo will clock with different ram based on the table above, my experience with s775 was limited to q6600 with pc 6400 reaper and a q9550 with both reaper 6400 and 8500.

Hopefully i have a good chip, it posts at 3.8 on my 750i board but just BSODs on boot, probably the board crapping out, hopefully on the P5Q i can get 3.6 with the RAM at 800Mhz. The CPU VID is 1.215v

I dont really want to buy more RAM as that will be RAM + mobo, may as well go the whole hog and get a new chip as well :p

The forum seemed to go down for maintainance, or at least thats what it told me when pressed submit reply :p

Aye, forum down for me as well for maintenance, very nice vid mate, though lower vid chips tend to run a bit warm, nforce boards are terrible quad clockers, been there with an evga 680i sli, (supposed quad friendly board). The cpu wouldnt go above 3.0ghz for love nor money, put it in a p5q deluxe, 3.8ghz with a bit of work.

with the q6600 at 9x422 fsb
If you had DDR2-1066 that was a lil' overclockable you could have run either of these memory multipliers and would have had a faster, snappier, lower latency system with increased bandwidth . . .

Intel® Core™2 Quad Q6600 @ 3798MHz (9 x 422)
  • [5:4] DDR2-1055
  • [4:3] DDR2-1125
and for the supremely "uBer" Q6600 3.8GHz clock this would have been magic!

Intel® Core™2 Quad Q6600 @ 3800MHz (8 x 475)
  • [6:5] DDR2-1140
I dont really want to buy more RAM as
Tough titties, I'm upgrading it for me! :p

what would you upgrade in the rig in my sig?

Unfortunately wayne, i sold the q6600, bought a q9550, kept it for a few months, (3.8ghz from it as well), sold it and bought an i7 rig, wanted the option of sli/xfire on one mobo tbh, had gtx 275 sli. very good, ditched it for DX11 and gtx 470's.

setter, you may be suprised to know that you cannot fart near your PC without me knowing . . . every single adjustment you make I'm aware of! ;)

This could be due to the fact we have been forum buddies all these years and I pay attention to what my irish brethren does or it could be due to the fact you repeat yourself many times . . . or a combination of the above! :p

Lol, i know mate, i remember my first attempt at 3.8ghz on my q6600, you described it as "amateur night", my cooling was dire to say the least, with a bit of advice from cob and pneumonic i got there eventually, i still class myself as a noob overclocker tbh.:)

I always value your opinion/advice wayne, maybe i do repeat things in a few posts lol, but it's always good to reinforce a point. Especially in a nice way.:)

MeatLoafs gots some cash burning in his pocket . . . if he's buying a ASUS P5Q-Deluxe then I'm gonna work on him to swap-out his older sticks for something that gives more clocking/tweaking flexibility . . . it can't cost that much (£10-£20 top after sale of older sticks?) . . . and with DDR2 memory value rising all the time when it comes to resale down the line (12-18months) the DDR2-1066 sticks will fetch a pretty penny I can tell ya! :D

Cmon Meat, join the DDR2-1066 investment club! ;)
