ok im thinking of getting into a scifi series and whats more better than star trek. Im no fan of of star trek but when i do watch them they do look pretty good. Ive seen about 5-8 episodes from each different star trek series so i sort of know the difference between enterprise and the voyager series.
Ive narrowed it down to two series:
Enterprise
voyager

Could you tell me which is the best out of these two, this is what i expect from them:
Gripping stories to each episode
cool special fx that still look good today
really good battles, especially with the Borg
Easy to understand for a new trekkie fan

I think thats it, i know its gonna be a bit expensive but if i buy 1 or 2 boxsets a month that should last me quite a while.

ds9 is top notch too :)

give it a whirl

yeah expensive so try somewhere like screenselect you can get 3 dvds at a time on rental watch em post em back and its unlimited rentals a month :)

i got thru the entire red dwarf box set(7 series in under a month) ////cough//// dvd writer ////cough////

I haven't seen Enterprise but Voyager is very dull, lacks cohesion and the best character is a hologram.

Deep Space 9 is the best Trek series in my opinion, it has more of an ongoing story, better characters and more action.

DS9 is the only one that can be said to have a proper plot thread running through the series.
It also has a better storyline in each episode as well (apart from the baseball one).

To be honest you've selected the two worst Trek series. Deep Space Nine or the Next Generation would be my pick, with the Original Series for the cheese value :D

Deep Space Nine has a few things that the others dont, its has an evolving plot and also massive space battles in the later series. Its also a much darker vision of the Trek universe. They dont always win.

Its also got the rather good and award winning episode "Trials and Tribble-ations". In season 5 i believe.

Enterprise is the best one when they're fighting the Xindi its probally the best episodes of trek ever written. The effects look good as well DS9 has some of the best plots and characters but i find it a little dull, however it does have "sacrafice of the Angels" which is basicly a big spaceship fight.

Personly i'd spend your money on the SG-1 and Atlantis DVDs rather than the star trek ones.

DS9 > TNG > Original series > Voyager, IMO of course (not seen enough of Enterprise to fairly judge it). :)

Voyager started poorly from what I remember, but got better towards the borg/species thingamijig story. TNG is great in it's episodic format (and has marginally the better characters), but I'd go for DS9 though, because the whole dominion/alpha quadrant story is played nice and slowly across the entire show, and the shapeshifters adds a nice element of paranoia to it.

to boldly go.......nowhere at all. let's sit on a space station for 7 years :p

Thats not really all that fair representation of DS9, especially after they introduced the Defiant into the series.

In fact i'll give DS9 another thumbs up for having the coolest Trek ship from any of the series. (I dont class Enterprise E in this as it was only in the films, and would probably be coolest in my opinion).

TNG is by far and away the best, IMO. I never got into DS9, but apparently it gets really good if you can make it past the pretty poor early stuff. Voyager was a good idea, but the crew were soooooo annoying and it was generally quite weak. The less said about Enterprise the better......yuck. You could always give the original series a try for classic cheesy action and hilarious "effetcs" :D

just a joke...

I'm one of the few people on these forums that watched them in the order they came out and my favourite is TNG -> Voyager -> Enterprise -> original series -> DS9.

DS9 was the best, definatly darker/gritty and more realistic plenty deaths and one major war which wasnt finished within 1 seasons or within 45 minutes.

I'm gonna risk getting booed out of the thread by suggesting you don't spend your time and money on Trek at all. While I used to like it a lot, after seeing Babylon 5 any flavour of Trek just seems shallow and unsatisfying to me. (And I'm sure it can be argued that DS9 stole its best inspiration from Bab5)
