That was one of the things I hated with SGU.Missus has dusted off Stargate Universe.
Hey ho, never really been a fan of the Stargate shows, couldn't buy into all the neo-Egyptian mythology, Jafar or whatever and the whole thing at times is very jingoistic and military overblown.
Universe thus far has avoided some of the trappings but essentially it's ST Voyager in Stargate.
However, there are a few jarring elements. We have this group of people who were quite happy to work 1000's of light years from Earth but then spend the whole show whinging about being stuck on a ship which is taking a grand tour of the galaxy.
They can't get home, but hey if you want to talk to HQ or your relatives there are body swap stones that work instantly across this vast distance.
We had a time loop episode on a planet where half the main cast are killed by creatures but the next episode everyone is back on the ship as if nothing happened.
We have a military commander who struggles to keep order and can't see that the civilian leaders have their own agenda.
Luckily there's only two seasons as apparently the show got cancelled, leaving the dysfunctional crew forever lost in space. Thank god.
Damn. As much as I'd like to stop before it gets worse, my wife is invested so I guess she'll just have to find out herself.Stop now - the first series was really well done and mostly self contained and could have been one and done, it just gets progressively poorer as it gets into the meat of S2 sadly. Too much dragging out of contrived conspiratory plotlines and every man and his dog with a murky past that somehow ties into Ryan's character.
You may well enjoy it - i'm quite possibly being unfairly critical. While the first season has moments of disbelief, it was still fairly grounded and took itself quite seriously, something I feel was lost in S2.Damn. As much as I'd like to stop before it gets worse, my wife is invested so I guess she'll just have to find out herself.
Finished S1 of The Capture on iPlayer. Started well then went over the top. I found the squaddie pretty annoying. Started S2 only a few episodes in so far but it seem much better.
Finished S5 of Cobra Kai. I didn't really find it that interesting for the first part. Not really that much action, what there was was very short and not really integral to the plot. Not really any good training scenes either. It was full of more touchy feely stuff. The last episode somewhat but not completely made up for it though. That was brilliant.
