I slightly preferred Devs over Severance - however they both suffer the same bloat around the middle that almost made me quit both shows, had the writing been tighter especially on Severerance (could easily have been cut down by 2 episodes overall) I think i'd be gushing over it quite a bit.
I'm not knocking either show, they were both very good and we need more that breaks the normal formulaic format - I just felt with how good the standout episodes were, it made the poorer parts more apparent as though they were writing to an episode requirement rather than just telling the stories organically.
Yeah too many series are bloated and have have too much filler, that awful fairground episode in TLOU should have been 15 minutes instead of an hour for example. But that's how TV is made now, by length not quality. That series was the epitome of uneven. I'd rather watch something interesting and well-done with some bloat issues than by-the-numbers stuff though, like Mando walking simulator, where very scene and conversation is dragged out as long as possible.
Shorter length series are better IMO, everything sems to fall off after 4 series max.
