What upgrade/sidegrade if my R9 390 is faulty?

Had a problem for a while now with my PC randomly crashing, screen will go black, the sound carries on for a few seconds and then cuts to a continuous loud buzzing. I posted about it a while ago and was told RAM or GPU. To be honest I've just ignored it for a while as it doesn't really bother me if it happens during browsing etc... but during gaming is annoying, so I've got two questions.

Is it safe to leave memtest running overnight? That way I can rule out the RAM. If it's the RAM then my next question doesn't really apply but anyway;

What would be an ideal sidegrade or upgrade at this point, I've only just seen that the RX5** are due out soon, I'm guessing they are just an update of the RX4** like the R9 290 to R9 390? I'll be sticking around the RX480/GTX1060 price range as the 1070 is a bit too much.
However I would like to change to a full water loop eventually, I know I could probably go for an air cooled 1070 at that stage but I'd like a silent running water loop, and if I went 1070 I'd also end up buying a more expensive monitor to match it.

It's also just occurred to me while writing this that the R9 390 is still under warranty, what would happen at this point since they are no longer on sale?

I'm pretty sure RX580 would be a virtual sidegrade.

In terms of warranty with Asus when I returned my GTX 780 with a fault as they weren't able to replace it directly they sent me a GTX 970 instead. In the case of the 390 you'd likely get an RX 480 if they don't have a new replacement or refurbished one to send you.

1080ti !!!!

Just joking haha. 980 would be a good shout if u can find one. Erm 480 and 1060 are probs tad bit slower. 1070 is the only path i would wanna take if i have to get another gpu at this moment in time. Vega is around the corner and so is the polaris refresh. 580 should be on par with a 390. Also get it rma. They usually try to repair or replace. If they can't they will swap it with something similar performing usually faster if they don't have any 390/x in stock or what the card would currently be worth. May have some small deductions due to owning it for a while

^ 1080 way out of budget and would prefer something a bit newer than a 980ti. What's the current state of RX480 vs 1060? I've not been keeping up with things but I remember a lot of talk about the RX480 being the one to go for as it will get better over time with new drivers, did they sort out the power issue on them?

MSI 390 recently died, so moved to a 480 while I wait for vega. I was reluctant as some of the specs looked much weaker than the 390, but in reality it's equally as quick, if not a little quicker in everything. A bit quieter and cooler than the 390 too - although have a Gigabyte G1 and the fan grinds for the moment when it first spins up, which is starting to irritate me... Definitely wouldn't categorise it as an upgrade (unless you count power efficiency as an upgrade), but it's okay for the moment.

3 passes on memtest with no faults, I'll give it a few more but the next step is to take the GPU out and run it with the onboard graphics for a few days to see if the problem goes away. If it doesn't them I'll RMA the R9 390 but I quite like the look of these RX 580's although the price could do with being a bit lower.

Been running without the 390 for a couple of days now and as expected the problem has gone. Going to give it a few more days just to make sure.

What happens when you RMA a GPU? What happens if they test it and find nothing wrong? What are they likely to send as a replacement if there is something wrong?

If something is wrong they will send a similar substitute. So you will get a RX 580/480

Imho the problems you described aren't GPU related. You should be looking for everything else also.

Been running without the R9 390 for two weeks now, and also ran memtest a couple more times, and have had no errors, no random black screens or any other problems, so I'm certain that it was the R9 390 causing problems.

I bought it from OCUK, do I speak to OCUK about RMA (if so, who/where?) or do I go direct to XFX?

Have you tried a different pice slot if you have a sli board?

I had a number of issues with browser crashing, games randomly crashing, blue screen of death and ram issues all this turned out to be the psu, changed for a spare one and no issues since
