What was your first ever CPU?

Cyrix 100MHz. It was dire.

(first processor before the desktop PC was the MOS Tech 6502 2MHz in the Acorn Electron we had)

i think it was a pentium II, I wish I could remember the speed.. Got it for Christmas 2000. I remember playing Worms Armageddon demo on that day... good times

Is this thread about which CPU we first used on a custom build or what processor our first ever PC contained or or or is it about which electronic device had our first cpu?

My first custom build PC, that I did myself without using Fox Computers/Eversham would be the AMD 3400+ Socket 754. I used to use my local pc shop to build my PC's for years.

As for my first PC it would be a Spectrum or if your talking proper PC then a 386 with 5 inch floppy disks and a green screen lol. Used to stare at my uncle and dad on lotus lol while I played on my Amiga 600.

First CPU was an 8080. Kind of a PRE-PC PC

Apart rfom the many 8 bits like the 6501 / 7501 / Z80 computers, my first real CPU is the Motorola 68000 that was in my Atari ST. Even today I still use a 68060 CPU in my Atari Falcon c63. Things have come a hell or a long way for the Amiga/Atari that so many dont realise.
my first real PC was the 8086 based Amstrad PC1512
I have had since then 286, 386, 486 and 586 PC then I skipped up to a massive Cyrix 333 then a few variants on the K6 and then an Athlon slot 700 I went to a Celeron 900 for almost 3 hours and then went back to the Althon once I realised how slow the Celeron was and I never touched an Intel until the E6300

Intel 486 DX-2 66Mhz For me and my first pc was a CPC464 Amstrad when i was 3 my brother used to get pushed off it a lot of the time i've never been without a pc all my life.

Intel 486 SX-25 (which died rather quickly and they replaced it with)
AMD 486 DX-40 (massive improvement or so it felt)
AMD 486 DX2-66
AMD 486 DX4-100
Intel P75
Intel 200mhz with MMX (dont remember model number etc)
AMD Athlon 500mhz
AMD Athlon 1200mhz
AMD Barton cored XP2500
AMD XP3200
AMD X2 3800
Intel Q6600 @ 4ghz (my current - see no need to upgrade atm)

Celeron 600mhz. There was one before this in the family room but the Celeron 600mhz was my first CPU that I gamed on, I spent hours playing Q3 online with it.

First computers were:

Acorn Electron
C64
Compaq 286

Then a couple of years later I had Pentium 133
Cyrix 150

Left it alone for a few years then came back with:

Duron 1ghz
P4 2.4ghz
P4 Presscott 3.2 (used to overheat like mad no matter what cooler was fitted)
E6400
Q6600

Now looking to upgrade to i7 either 950 or SB

Excluding the Spectrum experience... the first CPU for a PC was Intel's mighty 086 at 8MHz. That was in a Amstrad PC1640. One hell of a CPU.

Following that a 286, 386SX, 386DX (upgraded by adding a maths co-processor), 486SX, 486 DX/2, the first pentium which was mind blowing at the time, the introduction of MMX technology, various cyrix affairs, the celeron cheap skate journey, some venturing with AMD k6, back to intel for a pentium 3, 4 and eventually ended up with my current core2duo.

One hell of a journey since 1986 for me. Happy memories.

I had whatever was in this
