What watch do you wear?

That whole experience is the sole reason I wouldn't bother. A ludicrous way to treat a potential customer, made even worse by the fact that every idiot on Insta owns a Rolex so they're hardly protecting their "brand".
Same, if I can't walk into an AD and get a reasonable time frame for delivery then what's the point in having an AD if they can't sell you anything when you want it.... I might not want it by the time 'they' decide I can have it.

While I agree instragram and rolex aren't exactly a good combo (not sure it is for any decent watch brand really), I still wouldn't assume the rolex watches seen on there are real or owned by the poster... influencer posts aren't exactly known for their 'honesty'

Didn't realise GS went the full Rolex too. Shame, this has made me not want to get any GS any more for this reason alone.
Pretty sure he somehow managed to get put on the rolex list via a GS AD, not GS going down the 'exclusivity' route lol

Oh wait could swear I read that as GS lol, scratch that then normal business has resumed! :D

My bad!

So he wasn't referring to goldsmith's in Liverpool one where he was shopping then as GS since it's an official Rolex dealer? :p

Yep all understood now :p

Not worn this in a while, still think it's cool!

Zelos looks to have gone all out on their latest watch

The Zirc/Titanium damascus case is beautiful but $4,900 I have no idea how much the metal side of things should cost but the La Joux-Perret skeletonised 8 day twin barrel movement sounds expensive so I guess at least 50% is in that movement ?

There's an entirely sapphire case version for $8,900 would hate to imagine how that would look if you dropped it accidentally

I would not say half the cost is on the movement. The watches are very limited in number and all are hand torch heated by the guy himself. The bulk of the cost is going toward that manual labour.

I'd expect the sapphire case to be unscathed since the only thing capable of damaging sapphire is diamond.

For that money you are getting way more watch than any mainstream brand. Note quite pure hand made like Dornblüth & Sohn for similar money, but close enough with exotic materials thrown in. I would still prefer a DB&Sohn though :p

For sure

I thought you would know better, Sapphire is tough, scratch resistant but as tough as it is it is equally brittle and prone to cracking if met with enough force

Surely that's because the crystal is one flat piece of glass though hence the lack of structural strength on impacts whereas a case is designed a specific way to increase that structure?
There are also at least 5 or 6 brands who have sapphire cased watches and have done for some years, not heard of any breaking due to lack of strength!

I suspect the material ingredients used o create the sapphire aren't exactly the same as sapphire used in crystal either like how ceramic watch cases are not the same ceramic you get in cookware or bezel inserts and are considerably stronger as a result. Zelos is one brand that I know if they choose to use a material, it's been tested by them to some extreme too.

The movement is nowhere near half the cost of the RRP but based on the production cost it's easily 60%. Very good movement though, used in many higher end brands and in the Bremont Supersonic.
I'm a fan of this one but Zelos are a very odd brand. The majority of their watches are budget dive watches with fancy dials and cheap movements but then they throw this in the mix for almost $5k. They're either confident in their market and following or very naive.

The none torched standard titanium case version is $1000 less

I presume some of the $1000 cost is the extra cost of making the titanium/zin Damascus though, not just him torching them :p
The materials involved are relatively inexpensive when buying at a high volume and easy to work with. All he's doing is heat treating and etching them to get the pattern out of the metal.

There will still be extra cost in making the Damascus rather than just straight titanium. So you cant ay the extra $1000 is just for him torching the case.

They have other none Damascus cases at the same price made from stuff more expensive than titanium. Again that extra $1000 is for the case material, nothing to do with him hand torching them

But selling price quite often has little to do with actual cost. Its unique and in limited numbers. They obviously think they can sell them for $1000 more even if the material cost is only $50 more.

Its like car manufacturers charging £5k for bespoke paint. It doesnt cost them anything like that much more than the normal colours but people will pay for the uniqueness.

FWIW I know where they buy from and the costs involved as I work in the industry. Its not a massive amount more to make that case although Zelos operate on extremely tight margins.

So what you are saying is that they normally work on tight margins but that case is an extra $900 profit for them ;)

It is Flieger Friday

I have been in chats with Watch Obsession too about 18mm straps. Because Hirsch are not interested in expanding their natural rubber range, a new brand is coming in with a wide range of colours and styles to cater to more peoples requests with natural rubber straps. I can't wait as both Hamilton and Stowa are strap monsters so I will buy a bunch of whatever is released assuming they have quick release springbars too as cba with tool-based strap changes because added faff.
