What watch do you wear?

Maybe it's me but how stupid can a company be when they've been hyping these watches up like they have... it seems like it's everywhere too, Jody from justonemorewatch said screw it to getting one due to the queues in Australia (they've just got 2 stores selling them...).

Did they think no one would turn up to the four stores selling the watches or something.... seriously this is just really bad planning by swatch group but I'm sure it will get them some more 'hype' in the papers/instagram and help all those lovely scalpers get more money

If they've sold out in an hour in London, assuming everyone took 2 watches, it took no more than 1 minute to buy and they had 4 staff selling the watches, they literally had 2000 watches (per store) to sell at best....

I am curious as to how many actually want the watch as 'watch lovers', how many want it because of the hype (because they want to be 'cool') and how many see the £ signs from reselling....there's 43 listed on ebay right now, one stupid one at 63k but most seem to be in the 1-1.5k range, you can buy a proper speedy second hand from around 2.5k lol

Not pictured but the queue was literally door to door all the way around the block. Not to judge the image of a lot of the folks but a big turn out of scalpers.

I’m a bit shocked at the omega brand being put onto these, surely this detracts from the brand?

They seem to have been a success but I don’t even think my 15 year old would fall for this muck. It’s a plastic watch that looks like a speedy, am I missing something, honestly I must be because this is garbage wrapped in a nice box.

I do like swatch watches, just don’t call it what it isn’t.

I think it's a smart move by Omega to be honest. I mean it'll be a gateway watch for many (I.e. they buy the moonswatch then may move onto a full price Omega, I'd probably fall into that category) and it kind of builds good will amongst those that will never afford / want to pay for an Omega. It's clear to anyone that it's not an actual speedmaster so I dont think they'll damage their core brand.

There can’t be many people buying this £200 watch who then think, you know what, I’ll get a proper one for £7k !!
It’s clearly a swatch lead project, flexing their brands.

A Swatch speedmaster? Doesn't this cheapen the image of the proper speedmaster? I'll pass.

Massively in my opinion, but there's a big benefit to swatch by using the omega brand. I guess the group think the risk is worth it overall. I can't think of other such collaborations with brands, could you imagine a Rolex x Casio, sure it'd sell really well but Casio would be the only winner!
.

They already on eBay selling for several grand!

I've seen the red and white one currently at £63,000 with 57 bids!!

Scalpers making a fortune

Oh boy, what do I know.

My son just said he quite fancies one of these.
I take it he's of the 'Instagram generation'.... they seem to love overpriced 'hype products'

As I said earlier, this is more about influencers and improving the image of Swatch with their followers than people like us. Major influencers can 'afford' (or at least fake it) to buy an Omega, Omega is now associated with Swatch with non watch people (we know they're the same group). Most people following major influencers are 'younger' and will not have the funds for an Omega, they will however more likely have the money for a Swatch.

Imagine paying those silly prices for an already potentially overpriced watch just to see it at retail prices online in the summer just so you can have it 4 months before anyone else lol
There are some rumours saying 28th March for online sales.... think it's a little early personally but it would be one way to deter scalpers from future releases, if only it was a little more well known and confirmed.

Having said that, I've gone off the idea of getting one... I've realised I likely wouldn't wear it and the £200 can just go towards a pc upgrade or a 'better' watch
