What will come of all the hacking ?

IMO - The media/gov't are sensationalising the hell out of this as a political ploy to manipulate the public... less people will complain when they pass new acts in parliament to restrict internet activities, "copyright infringement", etc.

I guarantee that within a year or so, some sort of new internet liability/restriction/big-brother parliamentary act will appear out of the blue and this "hacking" story, among others, will be used as a "reason" to allow it to be passed.

I sound cynical right? Just wait for it...

I hope this will not be the case, but it's an inevitability.

This is what I don't understand... any good hacker knows you do it once, get in get out and hide behind a dozen proxies and the chance of being caught is slim to none... keep on doing it and there are other tools that can be used to find you and hiding behind proxies, even if you change them up, won't work for long (back in the 90s it might have worked, not these days).

ISPs log so much now that hiding, even behind proxies is fairly pointless if the authorities really want to catch you - they will.

The Brazilian branch of LulzSec, if that's what they should be called have DDoS attacked presidencia.gov.br and brasil.gov.br and taken them down this morning.

Cleary's identity may have been blown by rival hackers who published his name, address and mobile number on the web earlier this month.

Earlier this month? he's been tied to DDoS attacks for years, people have known his house address and real name since 2008.

A monkey could track down this guy.

I'm struggling to understand this pretty badly organised blog, but from what I can gather, another group of hackers called the "web ninjas" have managed to identify, hack, and report the leaders of LulzSec.

http://lulzsecexposed.blogspot.com/

Maybe someone else can translate this stuff better than I can...

Here's the actual message.
No matter how many bots you gather, no matter how much people you lie to, no matter how much pre-made tools you use, you will _NEVER_ represent the real hacking scene, we warned you, we told you we do not make empty threats, we gave u 48hrs to secure your ircs yet u failed to do so, instead u posted hashes from public forums and then claimed you doxed us and laughed at the fact that i was 17years old. stop telling yourself that u are hackers, putting a ip into a irc is NOT hacking nor is using pre-made tools and scripts to grab databases… you do not represent the anti-sec movement, u are not allowed to greet underground groups like zf0, ab, h0n0, el8 like your member “AnonSabu” was doing, you will never be apart of the underground scene, if anyone thinks you are underground and can actually hack they have no idea about what happens in the underground scene. oh and TeaMp0isoN Issue 2 is coming out VERY soon exposing lulzsec members (pictures, addresses, passwords, ips, phone numbers etc). . . . not so anonymous anymore are you? lets hope that you can swim because the lulzboat just got titanic’d…

I'd love to see the results, I'm betting there just a small group of 808chan or 2600

And this Ryan guy is not a big step forward, he's a well known DDoS peon and he was linked to lulzsec by hosting an IRC server that they occasionally used.

Nearly everyone leaves a trace most of the time when on the internet.

Can someone tell me how anyone could catch you if you did the following.

Bought a 3g Dongle.
Did all your hacking from a car and mobile all the time.

How would anyone catch you like this?

You'll still have an identifiable IP address, doesn't matter how you connect to the internet. You're safer using a public computer in a library or something.

You got the IP but it's never located at an address?

Most IP addresses aren't located at an address, but they are normally tied to an account with the ISP which has your address. I've never used a 3g dongle but I guess if you can either use one without creating an account or use fake details created anonymously then you'll be fine.

Presumably they'll also be able to triangulate your position in extreme cases.

MAC address obtained from TCIP/IP transactions being traced/recorded.

Manufacturer advises which stores are the most likely to have sold that MAC address based on whatever shipping records they keep.

Store CCTV has recorded you purchasing the 3G dongle.

Simples. :)

You'd get done rather quickly unfortunately, You can't just hide behind 1 IP that is hard to locate
