I've just been thinking, what would have happened if the terror plat to blow up planes over the Atlantic went ahead?

Imagine if we all woke up yesterday with the news that 8 planes had been blown up?

What would the state of the country currently be? What would the public's reaction be in your opinion?

Everyone would blame one another. Speechless, heartbreak, terror, insecurity, economy? There so many issues, and there all negative.

I wouldnt like to hear the facts.
 
Same as what happened after 9/11, 7/7 and every other previous large-scale terror attack.

Shock, fear, horror, anger, media hyperbole, questions, fingers pointed at the goverment, sorrow, conspiracy theories, sadness.

Probably in that order, too.
 
The public being the public we would hear lots of:

*OMG!!!! IF THE POLICE SUSPECTED THEM WHY DIDN'T THEY RAID THEM!!!! THE POLICE SUCK!!!!

*SEE!!!! THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE SUCK UP TO THE US!!!!!! BLAME BUSH!!!!

*IT'S ALL ISRAELS FAULT!!!!!

*OMG!!! THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE ARE RABIDLY ANTI-MUSLIM AND FLY THE ENGLISH FLAG LIKE NATIONALIST THUGS!!!! IF ONLY WE HAD HUGGED A MUSLIM!!!!!

*LETS GO AND PROTEST MARCH OUTSIDE DOWNING STREET!!!! DOWN WITH BLAIR THE BUTCHER!!!!

*IT WAS A PLOT BY MOSSAD AND THE CIA TO MAKE US GO TO WAR WITH "insert Arab nation" ALL BECAUSE OF OIL!!!!!

While the more sensible people would be saying things like:

*We need to crack down hard on potential terrorists even if it restricts a few freedoms before it happens again

*If only the Police weren't afraid of looking bad they might have stopped this.

*More Muslims blowing up people, I see a patten here lets blame the Muslims because there is obviously a problem with them in this country. **** political correctness and lets face the truth.

Assuming there really was one... unlike the Ricin plot or the shoulder launched missile plot or the Manchester United plot etc...

Assuming there was an attack as the media describes then we would just ratchet up the war on terror and then generally get back to business as usual just like after the Trade Centre, Madrid and London bombings...

I think you mean the media being the media but hey...

Been said before, but anybody who thinks any freedoms should be given up to prevent terrorism doesn't deserve freedom or safety. There would have ocurse be a load of new measures to stop this happening in the future which actually are of no help what so ever,

the shoulder launched missile plot to shoot down an isreali airliner in kenya that only failed because somehow they managed to miss it??!

or another one?

A load of posturing, a few angry people but other than that I think life would go on as usual, just like it did after every other terrorist attack we've been the victim of.

I thought he meant the shoulder launched missile that hit the MI5 building a few yearas ago, which only "failed" because of the strength of the building etc.......

Perhaps he is talking about something else, or maybe just a conspirary theorist.

I can't find any trace on the BBC website of a follow up to this. No arrests, no trials, just a big scare.
 
clv101 is refering to the incident a couple of years ago when tanks were stationed round Heathrow to "prevent" a anti-tank missile attack on jets taking off/landing.

Then the same idiots that accuse the police / security services of over-reacting when there is a suposed threat , would ask why the same people did not act earlier.

Yeah but was anything prevented? No one was ever caught. If there were planning and capable they would have done it a few weeks later when the tanks went home. They didn't.
 
When will people understand that the police/govt are not in a position to just sit back and do nothing if they have any info pertaining to a threat.

Imagine the following:

A chancer with a shoulder launched rocket fires at an aircraft on take off and gets a lucky hit, causing the 747 with 380 passengers on board to crash into a village killing a further 100.

It then comes out after 2 weeks that MI5 received a warning about an algerian group with access to a weapon of some kind planning on bringing down an aircraft, but did nothing about it.

There would be outcry, and rightly so.

Yes, putting light tanks at the airport was obviously a show of force, but rightly so!!
