What would it take to get Crysis smooth @ 1920x1200?

If you open up the exe in Notepad, you'll see a line about 1/3 down that says something like "IF GPU(0).VENDOR <> "NVIDIA" THEN FRAMERATE = 0.5 * FRAMERATE. Comment this out, and it will be all fine.

Ah, no wonder the framerates are so shocking. Never knew it was a BASIC application.

i run crysis at 1920x1080 on very high with 4xAA and get 30+FPS with a 260GTX what hasn't been overclocked :/

can push it to 8xAA but i drop down to 20+fps then, but as the ATI fans say, its because Crysis was made to work better with Nvidia :p

Well it's about as smooth as 35-40 fps to begin with but within 10 mins the perf dies quite rapidly. Memory leak perhaps?

Anyhow I am a little worried tbh. I have 9.2 already with Catalyst A.I set to standard, AA on application setting and AF on 16x forced. All settings to high apart from shadows to medium in crysis itself and I dont get the performance you guys are talking about?

I wonder whats up? Might it be a subjective thing of what we each call 'playable'?

Many thanks!

Tom

EDIT: I would also re-itterate to you guys that the difference in performance between 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 is literally huge. I know some wise ass is gonna say why dont I use the former but I game on 24" - ie I want native mofos!

Hi,
Set the Catalyst A.I. to advanced.

Hi,
Set the Catalyst A.I. to advanced.

Hey mate I tried that just now and all that happens is that I get mouse lag although it does seem smoother. There is also no tearing which leads me to believe that Catalyst has somehow overridden the game with VSYNC. I'm not a fan of VSYNC unless its an older title. Can I have the increased smoothness of ADVANCED A.I but without the vsync?

Many thanks!

Tom

P.S Lol @ tardis!!!

Hi everyone,

im hoping this thread can be relevant rather than starting a new one.

I run a resolution of 1680 x 1050 and am upgrading to this pc this week...

Radeon HD4870 1024Mb PCI-E graphics
AMD Crossfire ready motherboard
AMD Quad Core processor 2.8Ghz
4Gb DDR2 memory
DVDRW - SATA
2 x 160Gb SATA hard drives
Windows Vista Home

Im just wondering if anyone can confirm how well this will run the game Crysis?

Thank you!

Running Crysis 1920X1200 with 2 4870X2's in CrossfireX (9.2 cats) and Q9650 quad CPU @ 3.6 i can run Crysis with every gfx setting including AA maxed out. Lovely and smooth.

You are either lying or you are lying. No single card today can handle 1920*1080, 4AA AND VERY HIGH (with godrays and paralax maps and all that) in 30FPS completely STABLE.

Hell, I run Crysis with my GTX280 OCed in 1920*1200, NO AA, HIGH details, and it runs 30-60 fps, but sometimes goes under 25....

a ha...someone who has 2 4870x2s in crossfire! That sounds sick man. Would you be kind enough to post a vid or summit? I know its hassle but wouldn't you like to show off ya killer rig to everyone? ;) ;) ;)

i could grab another 4870x2 second hand or summit. I am on a quest to make this game run super smooth. Do you play GTA4 at all mate? Does it run awesome on that game to?

Thanks again!

Tom

Btw, my system:

Core2Duo 3.16ghz
2gigs ram 800mhz
GTX 280 1GB OCed
WinXP SP3 x86
Crysis 1.21

I just applied very high tweak ( http://www.crysis-online.com/downloads/45-very-high-quality-config-1-3.html ) and ran

BENCHMARK_GPU

Settings? 1920*1200,4*AA, VERY HIGH (via that tweak).

Average fps - 24.83, Minimum fps - 18.36, Maximum fps - 32.43

So this is why I do NOT believe statements like "My GTX260 can run it blah blah"..................................

I'd say get another 4870X2 if you can stand the noise, heat etc and your PSU can handle em.. This heats my room up really quick, i'll most probably clutch at my heart whilst gaming and die this summer with the heat lol. I've not played GTA4. I'm curently playing COD5 left4dead and fallout3, i've completed Crysis + all of the expansions - once with 1 4870X2 and i played em all over again with the 2 in CFX and enjoyed it far more!.. Thinking about getting FEAR2.

Its worth me mentioning i ordered a GTX 295 (during the hype) then my m8 bought one and we found the hype to be total bull and far from the truth and in real world it wasn't anywhere near what the hype was making out. I cancelled my order for the GTX 295 and got another 4870X2. Best decision i made all year! like i said though.. Your PSU will need some beans and you'll need to be running a pretty decent OC on the CPU to get the most out of these beasts ;)

I'm assuming dx9 with a very tweaked config because there is no way you get that kind of performance otherwise.

I play at the same res, 2xAA, all very high and dx10 on the pc in my sig and I still don't get a steady 30 FPS. My max will be a fair bit higher but average will be a little less and min will be in the teens.

Also, it does play a lot better on nvidia than ATI. My 280 plays it much nicer than my crossfired 4870's ever did.

If crysis had been coded right in the first place we would all have forgot about it by now,why do we hold up this tat of a game and worship it like a god.

Couldn't agree more. IMO one of the most overrated games ever. Still haven't completed it. Got out of the alien ship, then got bored.

Cool man thank you for the info and images. Did you see that I use custom water cooling? Noise certainly ain't an issue, its more the heat which I need to contend with if I was to go dual 4870x2 route. Although, in 6 months time there's bound to be a new single card which can match the performance of the 4870x2 (assuming the 4870x2 doesn't turn out to be another 8800gtx that is!) which might be more suitable. But, I don't know if I can wait - I am a little dissapointed by the perf of the 4870x2. At 1680x1050 on my rig, its a beast and eats everything for breakfast but at native res it really seems to struggle or at least perform inconsistantly (depending on the game). If another could smooth out my FPS then I'll be a happy bunny! I am loving Crysis tbh, even the gameplay - it reminds me of Goldeneye for some reason. I am also addicted to Oblivion with various mods so playing that through again is pretty good on the 4870X2 although again, could be better!
