What would make the Ideal Online Rpg. Your Ideas?

Ive just been thinking about something that i wished was possible/available in online RPGs.

For me I personally wish that "Epic" items were truely epic, I wish there was a collection of armor and weapons so huge that every person would practically be unique.

I think epic swords etc should be for true hero type people. Maybe you didnt play the game for 100 days, but you slayed a unique one off spawning dragon that just ate the innkeeper!

Crafting a sword shouldnt be just a recipe, it should be a template which you can customize with your own designs. So when people are walking about with a sword you crafted. its visible to everyone who did it.

Your character could gain size, or lose weight, get cut, scars, tattoos, burns etc.

What would you like to have in a huge online game?

Look into the expansion for LOTRO. The blurb is about epic weapons which level along with your character, becoming unique to your character and it's style of play.

Also,

You should get medals or engravings on armor to say that you have killed *insert here*

Other than just having loot drops that indicate you were there for downing a boss, i think a medal system, kind of like a war hero would look great :)

Did you ever see UO2 which was being built around 2000? 3D graphics engine etc, but they dropped it :z
I'd love to be able to explore the UO world in true 3d (not the current '3d' client).

Yeah, they've got close to doing it twice, just wish they would finally do it. Great days back in UO

Like a few others have said, UO2 would be as close to perfection as there is.

No levels, high risk and most importantly...freedom.

I understand that you are posting from the point of view of what a consumer wants. But you have to consider it in terms of what a supplier can deliver.

(this is not targetted at anyone, just what i observed whilst reading the thread) Free games with good graphics, gameplay, support and updates won't happen, all those things require man hours, people have dedication but it has limits, you want them you have to pay for them.

You want unique items/armour (both in appearance and stats) this can be achieved either by a limited number of models/animations, that you decide how they are combined (like KotOR where you pick sabre handle and crystal) or are you suggesting that they model/animate things custom to users?

People don't want to grind/repeat quests, well you need replay value in MMORPGs and you can't add content everyday, comes back to man hours. This could be achieved with dungeons that randomly generate themselves and their content, based on play levels/skills (but then people don't want lvels!)

Cryptic quests are fine for the first person, then they are online and everyone looks it up instead of using their noodle.

And lastly you want decent graphics, and a more direct role in combat, but not all systems and setup can handle this, reducing your customer base.

These pipe dreams are nice but the supplies aren't out to make you happy, they are out to make money, and these 2 are related, they do not share the same importance

I have a self imposed ban on MMOs, in case I enjoy it and it eats my life...

Anyway - I'd want an online world with a sense of continuity. Player actions should have permanent consequences. A real sense of development and over-arching story would be great, giving relevance to the whole thing.

No grinding or levelling. Skills and property based character development.

Eve and SW:G have been the only MMOs that have sounded remotely interesting to me so far.

Just give me a game that isnt level based and is skills based.

to be honest, UO back in the T2A days..

Indeed, UO was simply amazing. Yet I tell the modern MMO'er that and they scoff...what?? It didnt have any quests at all??? What ?? when you died someone could loot the stuff off your body?? What?? There was hardly any loot to get??

Yet oddly enough, I've played every major western MMO (except Vanguard) and its still UO that kept me playing the longest (4 years between 1997 and 2001), and its still UO that I look back on as being the best example of an online RPG at its prime.

At the time they released UO, Origins company motto was "Origin : We create worlds" ...and thats probably one of the most true things they ever said. They are still one of the very very few MMOs which felt like a feasible world, and not just a game.

.

Sounds like UO :)

I like the idea of heavily skill based MMO's however the only real way I can see this happening would be to have a major FPS element in the game. If a really skilled player could take on say 4 intermediate players at once purely through skill/aim/speed etc that would be awesome. Unlocking new armour/clothing through skill based on your accuracy or statistics would be good too - You would be able to visibly see how good someone was as opposed to visibly seeing how long they've been playing.

Diablo 2 as an mmo would be good. Its still brilliant with 8 players in a room, but it would be amazing with hundreds.

I have even tried some of the custom shards based on older UO but its jsut not the same as the good old OSI of olde years. have you tried UO these days? they have completly ****ed it up :(

If its that bad, then dont waste your time reading it, and definately dont waste your time by taking that little bit of extra time to actually reply to it !
