Owing to the so called "Credit Crunch" and supposedly people being hard up for cash, what would you say is a average wage today?

this question is too open ended?

What town/city/part of country are you talking about?

And the amount varies too much depending upon skills/trade etc etc

IIRC, the national average a few yaers back was £24,000p/a.

Not sure how its been affected in recent times though.

Its not open ended. The average UK wage is based on the country as a whole,ie the UK average.

so if you want the official average, go look it up.
or are you asking what people think is average in terms of 'liveable'?
if the latter, then it will be skewed by peoples debts (inc mortgage) and repayments.

Here are some statistics upto 2007.

Beware of "Lies, damned lies, and statistics" though, it is a government site :D

EDIT: so according to the linked stats, the yearly median was £23,000 - £24,000 in November 2007

I think a reasonable estimate of a living wage is about £25k, from what I've read.

Most people in the country don't make that.

I remember having to research this a year or two ago. IIRC discounting London completely, average was 24k, median 22k.

Just as a random calculation for you, if minimum wage is £5.52, there are 8 hours in a working day and 252 working days a year then you'd earn a salary of £11,128 pre-tax, that's quite shocking, surprised it's that low.

Read my post. I said I'd heard "anything from" 12k to 18k meaning that I'd heard the average cited variously as being 12k on one occasion, 18k on another, and a couple in between as well.

Yeah, but 12K is around minium wage, so it's hardly going to be from 12K.

*****i didnt know the minimum wage was so low.I would not work for that i would rather join the Jeremy Kyle Brigade.
