What would you change in the game?

Quite simple, what would you choose to change in the game? Can be anything you like, say the ticket office, media, club management, terraces, penalties etc etc..

Here’s mine:

Bring onside offside

Reinstate the old offside ruling. How on earth did it comes that we need debate if a player on the pitch is passive or not? Off side is offside and that’s it. If your on the pitch, you’re surely always active because the there’s a likelihood that such a player may be drawing the attention of a defender away from an attacking situation. It was difficult enough to explain the old offside rule to people but nearly impossible to explain now. I don’t think even the officials have grasped it yet.

Abolish Injury time

Take a leaf from Rugby and allow the team medic on the pitch and allow play to continue. You’ll be surprised at just how many players would then stop feigning injury and will want to continue, They say there’s no “natural “stoppage in the game but who’s kidding who when you’re adding 5 minutes of injury time? If Fifa want the game to flow, get rid of injury time and allow play to continue when a player goes down. Manchester Utd and Arsenal would object to this of course.

Standing room only

Bring back standing terraces. I can’t see how seating is any safer than standing. It’s cramped, uncomfortable and awkward. My knees are normally knocking on some poor chap ear lobes in front. Clubs would benefit from extra capacity and atmosphere. We have a better understanding of public safety now days so providing numbers are controlled and limited then there’s surely no reason not to allow this.

Squad numbers and names

Quite simply, let the players earn their right to wear numbers 1 through 11. Most of us (well older memebrs anyway) can relate to past players wearing the Liverpool number 7 down the years, for example. A tradition that will slowly vanish.

Pension off Martin Tyler

I know most of you will disgree with this but his endless drivel, protracted silences and often discuss games not relevant to what’s in front of him drives me nuts. Mute the TV and listen to BBC radio commentary. Better quality imho.

Not standing. I had friends and family at H'borogh that day.

I'd like to see ticket prices decrease.

I'd like to see more clubs invest in a long term plan, both on and off the pitch.

I'd like to see the F.A. change the ethos, attitude and development of English talent. The current 'system' has failed English football for 60 years and developed an over reliance on foreign players. (I don't want to quote the number of coaches in England v Italy, Spain, Germany and France) This is something that other Football Association's have done and it's now paying off.

I'd like to see the Media be better and the standard of football punditry and commentary improve, basically move away from the window licking standard of ITV.

I'd like petty fans to stop harping on about injury time that was added on in one or two high profile games a few seasons ago.

I only have one main one.

Have a team of ex-pro's or physicists analyse video footage of every penalty claim after each game. If in the view of the team the attacking player has somehow breached the phsyical laws of the universe in order to go down, apply a minimum 8 game ban against said player, and watch diving in the box disappear overnight. Increase it to 12 game ban if the player managed to con the ref during the game and win a penalty.

Have 20 cups related to the premiership able to be won each year but each team can only win 1. EVERYONE WINS!! hooray

.

I'm sorry I didn't mean to cause any offense but without going into the reasons behind that day, we have a much better understanding and infrastructure in place today then we did then. We don't have fences, policing and security is better. Crowds are controlled, ticket availably and arrangements are stricter. As I said, providing is regulated, controlled and limited then I can't see it being a problem.

On a serious note regarding both injury time and replays. I'd copy the NFL/rugby rules, they have it perfect. Stop the clock for injuries and for the few debatable decisions in each game of football just stop the clock and refer to a video referee. It's not difficult to hook up an ipad or monitor on the sideline for the fourth official to check a replay, if ITV can manage to show us offside and goal line replays 5 seconds after it happens then I'm sure Phil Dowd can manage it.

You might not of intended offence.

My stance on standing isn't going to change.

I'd introduce the same level of respect/discipline as is present in rugby. The ref speaks to the captain, the captain speaks to the player in question. Anyone running up to officials/mouthing off at officials is instantly yellow carded.

I'd like to see the EPPP scrapped, indefinitely.

I'd also probably like to see goal mouth technology introduced - not necessarily because I get frustrated when non-goals are goals, but I'm just fed up of everyone banging on about it and using it as excuses for draws/losses.

Other than my gripes with supporters and how individuals treat their local footballing communities, there's not much I'd change - I would like to see reduced train tickets for football-supporters though :p Scunthopre away with the old man was quoted as being almost £300!!!

Linesmen to step up and start calling what they see.

All too often we see shirt pulling and man handling and shoving before and during corners ...You see it. I see it and the linesman's staring it in the face.

Yet he rarely raises a flag. I often wonder if it's due to his proximity to the fans and the higher risk of getting an object to the head :p

Also bring back the European cup where only league champions are allowed entry this might stop managers accepting 4th place as a result...

Rangers games in 1995 were £4 they are now £28 a raise of 700% in 17 years. I'm sure EPL tickets are the same.

Players don't feign injury to get more time at the end of the game, they do it to gain an advantage at that particular moment.

You can't get rid of diving from football as its not an exact science. You can already see that players that dive a lot get a reputation and start to lose even stone wall decisions. Look at Suarez.

I would add goal line technology but thats about it.

This would be a great introduction to the game.

Can you expand on this a little. Not sure what you mean?

Have you watch ITV's Football coverage?

It's absolutely terrible. I'd like to see all of the broadcasters improve, by improve I mean hire people who have opinions and are not treading the company line, who aren't idiots as well would be good.

Play acting and unnecessary diving though not sure how one would go about rooting it out.

Easy!

Appoint one man with absolute authority- a Sepp Blatter of the cheating world if you will ;) and make an announcement that states if this one man even thinks you have cheated, play acted, dived, exaggerated an injury or in any other way tried to do something against the principals of the game, you will be banned for 10 games without pay with no appeals process!

The player in question should also be summoned to a press conference with the incident played on a big screen in slow motion and the adjudicator asks him to explain himself!

This would stamp it out overnight but it will never happen as all of the debate about all this simply keeps football in the press - like they say, "any publicity is good publicity!"

*edit*

oh, and get rid of this ridiculous yellow card for kicking the ball away business - it isn't time wasting, the ref stops his watch for heavens sake!

Goal line technology.
Greater punishment for those who dive.
Ref only speaks to captain, anyone rushing up to the ref = yellow card.
Linesmen doing their job properly.
Random multiball!
