Hi all,

right basically my Dad is seriously thinking about emmigrating.

He hasn't mention anything to mum yet and is going to have talks with her soon about it all.

I've spoken with him about it and he said he would buy a nice place in Australia and sell our current house and buy a small place here in England.

And then himself Mum and brother would move out there and me and my sister would have our own say in it and it would be upto us if we wanted to go out there with him or stay here etc.

Now I'm not really sure what I would do.

My trade is computers, and have a promising career ahead of me with work in London. For which I'm on a nice wage and get to enjoy the a lot of nice things etc.

But if say my parents were to move out to Australia just for the idea of living in a better weathered country with equal possibilities appeals to me a lot.

So what would you do if you were in my position.

Currently I'm 18 with a promising career in IT for a big insurance underwriters in London or move out to Australia with rest of the family to see what new opportunities I are there and start my career there.

Many Thanks :)

stay here for a bit, see if they like it 100% and settle out there. if they do then maybe move out to be with them or take extended holidays there to see if you like it too.

they are pretty strict on who they let in, but computers should be ok. i am going into that field and am considering moving out there at some point too. either way i'd stay here for a bit as moving out there, finding out you dont like it then having to move back would be a lot of hassle.

The grass is always greener on the other side.

Despite its problems, this country is cracking.

Second the 'wait and see how they settle' comment.

agreed on what daven said, though you should bear in mind that these days a promising career in IT isn't hard to find at all, so you should be able to settle down wherever you go. Make sure tho, that you work there enough to get a credible and decent reference :D

It's ok, they have computers in Australia :).

If your parents are going to help you out with the move then I say go for it. See what else the world has to offer. If you're not happy, you can always come back.

One point to remember; Australia is full of Australians!

What would I do?
Stay here and free holidays to Oz I guess. All depends how much you want to stay geographically close to your family.

Personaly I'd take the chance :)

No real reason other than I would like a change from this country.

That sounds like a good idea :) thanks for the advice :)

Have you been to Austrlia before?

If not, I would go out to Australia for a few long holidays then decide. You can't really think about emigrating to a country that you haven't been to before.

Well I know my sister won't go because she has a horse and the horse comes first lol.

Dad said that he wouldn't leave us completely on our own if he moved out there and we stayed here. I'm not sure what he would and what he wouldn't pay for.

So I'd like to try say for 6 months out there and see how I find it but I wouldn't want to lose my job here in London. Thats where the problem lies.

Nope never been. But Dad has and he loves it there.

I'm 19 at the moment and my family is in the early stages of immigrating to singapore, Dad has been worknig out in Malaysia for 3 years and is know being relocated to singapore and have been given the chance to go and live with him there, so we are in the early stages of selling the house, selling my parents business and I am selling up my business to go out there and persue my career as a commecial airline pilot. If I was you i'd jump at the chance to live in australia, i've had relatives out there since the 70's and have been many times myself.

you are young enough to go and then decide its not for you, come back and still have a 'promising' job in IT.

Sounds dead right to me. You can go out there presumably out of your parents' pockets, so I'd give it a go!

Six months down the line, you'll still be able to get another job back in London if you don't want to stay in Oz.
