What would you do? (Tyre pic inside)

Not every situation is straight forward though.

I had a mate replace his rear tyres on his M3 800 miles later he goes out to find both flat.
Turns out a couple of bushes had gone and just raped the inner edge of both tyres in 800 miles. The day before they were through to the cords and no-one would think about checking them so soon.

However that is the opposite of the op

Whilst this is unfortunate it still should have been noticed. It's your responsibility as a driver to check your car is roadworthy before driving it. I check my tyres at least weekly and always before any longish journey before I get in the car!

There is being a bit slack with car maintenance and there is tacking the mick. Well done for reporting them, hopefully they put a marker on the plate and they'll be pulled soon.

Not sure how anyone can say not to report this.

There is having a tyre low on tread and then there's having a tyre basically bald with the cord showing.

Kudos to the OP for reporting this to the police.

If they can't afford to replace a tyre, even for dare I say it, a budget one then the car shouldn't be on the road IMO.

But you've just admitted you too would have missed it. Checking your tyres at least weekly still would have missed his issue. His tyres were LESS than a week old

I can think of 2 or 3 occasions over the last couple of years when tyres like that would have probably caused me to run over pedestrians.

OP did the right thing calling the police. Hope it's either got a new set of tyres on it or the owner's facing the consequences.
