What would you go for..?

WOW... Golfs really do look boring.

The people who must actually really like the Golf, are well - people that own them? Trying to convince themself, and others its good :D

I have been in a Mk5, interior is boring and cheap, was gutless, never put a smile on my face once.

Each to their own.

Wow. Had the test drive in the S3 earlier today - what a car. Unbelievable. They sorted out a solar orange one for me, bit loud but it looks very nice - nicer that photos you find online. Interior was lush. Performance was fantastic - felt endless. I want another go.

Just need to sort out the R32 and GTi test drive now for comparison.

i like the solar orange, don't see too many of them but still prefer candy white.

How much was the S3 and how old?

It was an October 2007 build, about 9k on the clock. Quite a lot of extras (arm rest, ipod, auto lights, auto rear view mirror and leather interior - looked superb inside and out) - was fantastic. Was up for 23K.

White is what I have my mind set on too, although I saw the following red S3 on another forum and thought it looked awesome:

It also highlights a problem with the S3 and its pricing for some.

Why spend nearly £30k on a car which looks so similar to the 2.0 TDI or 1.6 S-Line you can get for £15k that its easy to mistake the two?

Because some people care about performance and not what other people think? Besides, you could say the same thing about most performance cars.

It's a subtle difference for sure, and it's not all about looks. But the differences are certainly nice differences (and ones I would usually notice!)

What I did also like about driving the S3 was the engine and exhaust sounds, not too loud/boomy, just right - I'm worried the R32 might be a bit louder: we'll see.

Whether you care to admit it or agree with it or not, image and perceived image plays a considerable part in the choices of many when picking a car like an Audi.

Becuase if performance is all that matters, the S3 begins to look like even poorer value despite being a great car.
