What would you have done?

LOL. In absolute stitches imagining Dis86 rolling on his pushbike protecting the neighbourhood from apple wielding children. :D

I don't see what the fuss is about when they didn't even throw anything at you. I would just mind my own business as local people would know not to fling things at me, especially 200m from my house, let alone apples which is just bizarre in it's own right. Learning to mind your own business is very important, but I can understand the inexperience when the most dangerous thing going on in your neighbourhood is a bunch of young chavs throwing apples at people. :D

Err, they were throwing them at moving vehicles.

Glad you're not my neighbor! :D

Yeah but not the OP's vehicle.

I doubt OP taught these kids a life lesson, they will simply go somewhere else and get back to their mischief and laugh at that random angry guy. Rendering any intervention wholly pointless.

You're missing the point. It's not about teaching them a 'life lesson', that's not the OP's job. It's about stopping the behavior. And that's what he did.

The possibility of one of the cars having an accident after being hit with a crab apple was real. Someone could have been seriously hurt or even killed. I think that warrants intervention.

The thing is Asim, when you and those kids grow up you'll eventually realise some people care about more than just themselves. I wouldn't want my car full of dents, I therefore imagine the owners of the cars that had the apples lobbed at them wouldn't want them full of dents.
On top of that there's the risk that they break a window or even worse cause one of the drivers of the moving vehicles to have an accident.

Let's just hope you're never in a situation where you need someone else's help and they think like you do, '**** it, why should I care about someone else'.

So how on earth do you stop behaviour without teaching a lesson? You really think these guys will never throw anything at a car again just because some random dude rolling along on a pushbike got a little angry for 5 minutes? Surely that's the point of trolling? to get reactions like that?

A 5 minute angry exchange isn't going to end a life of stupidity, mischief, chavvyness.

Let's just hope you're never in a situation where you need someone else's help and they think like you do, '**** it, why should I care about someone else'.

I can guarantee you I will never need help in a situation where some children decide to throw fruit at me or my car.

You seem to think you're some super guy who can take care of stuff

Why do you assume no one else can defend themselves from children throwing apples? :D

You keep going back to 'life lessons'. That's beside the point. No, they most likely won't stop being db's because of this.

The point is: They stopped throwing crab apples at that moment.

That's all the OP can do or hope for.

Leave the life lessons for the courts. (or their parents.... but that seems unlikely in this case)

Precisely.

Who knows, they may actually think twice about doing something remotely stupid in the future. There's always a chance.

However not intervening would mean there is no chance.

And yeah Merle, these things are like rocks too. About 3 inch diameter.

Now you're being intentionally obtuse.

I think you know what he's talking about.

And, btw, if you'd ever seen a crab apple you wouldn't call it 'fruit'. It's the density of a rock. (at least the ones in the US are.)

And yeah Merle, these things are like rocks too. About 3 inch diameter.

I'd compare them to baseballs but I'm afraid that would be lost on this crowd. :D;)

Yeah I would also hope your intervention wasn't in vain and had some lasting effect. But being realistic the chances of them ever becoming model citizens are pretty bleak.

Whether they're throwing things at cars or not these people are always going to be up to some form of douchebaggery.

Lol on that we completely agree.

What I'm hoping as well is by me standing up to captain mouth and his two mates seeing him back down maybe they'll lose a little respect for him as I gathered him to be the instigator.

I don't think his intention was to convert them into model citizens.

Stopping them doing what they were doing seems to have been the primary motivation, and he succeeded.

Of course not, that's not even possible which is the whole point!

What I'm saying is is it worth intervening for 5 minutes to get 15 minutes of peace? There's just too many variables. 20 minutes later they could start doing something twice as dangerous which renders the initial intervention a waste of time.

In other words I wouldn't want OP to get angry for 5 minutes only for the chavs to start doing something twice as dangerous after he's gone.

Yes, it's worth it if it stops further damage and prevents potential accidents.

You seem to continually miss the point of what was actually happening in order to make it about something it wasn't.

For an arbitrary amount of time into the future, yes they did stop doing it.

If someone decides to pick one of these things and lob it at a car tomorrow afternoon, OP's intervention has had little effect (unfortunately).

So it's pointless to try and stop terrorists because another one will come along at some point?

I really don't understand your position on this. And frankly, I find it indefensible.

Put the shovel down and climb out of the hole.

Whoa... No is the answer to that question lmao... You've gone on an absolutely ridiculous tangent now haha.

What has stopping a terrorist got to do with anything?

OP hasn't "stopped" anything he has interrupted it (which is good and I'm not disputing that), it's the SAME chavs who will be doing the SAME chav behavour tomorrow, not "another one will come along at some point".

The chav's behaviour has been interrupted, not stopped.
