Well Windows 8 is abit of a marmite OS, I personally don't mind it but I have since gone back to using Windows 7 & after using Windows 8 for a few weeks i feel Windows 7 is just better for desktop PC's period.

OK Windows 9 or Windows 8 SP1

First & foremost the thing i really hated above all else in Windows 8 is the horrid flat crap UI, I love the desktop aero it's brilliant in Windows 7 when watching movies or playing music ect, With Windows 8 it just spoils everything having that flat boarder around everything is to distracting & even after a few weeks i could never get use to it no matter what colour i changed it to, this was one of my main reason to go back to using Windows 7.

Windows 9 or Windows 8 SP1 should bring this option back period.

Metro screen charm bar ect.

Should have the option to turn these on or off, I never really used them & spent 99% of my time in desktop.

Start button

Bring this back!!!! When i was using Windows 8, I installed Start 8 as it just made Windows 8 more easier to use than faffing about trying to do stuff the way windows 8 want you to do stuff.

Don't get me wrong Windows 8 does a lot of thing right & better than Windows 7, But Windows 7 is designed for the Desktop PC, Windows 8 is more aimed at Tablets first and the Desktop user second.

If Microsoft just gave me these option's when installing Windows 8 to turn off or on then i would be one happy Windows 8 user, maybe we see these otptions in either SP1 or Windows 9.

Anyways what else would you like to see changed in Windows 9 or even SP1 if Microsoft listens to it's user's?

I want native start menu back and tiled interface for laptops and desktops to disappear.

That is all!

Native start menu and a choice as to use it or tiles along with the ability to drop directly into the desktop upon booting. Not sure if you can do the last one as I haven't actually installed my retail copy yet...

I have actually come to like the "Start screen" once I realised I could delete the stuff I didn't want (Most of it) and could customise it with my favourite programs (I cant quite bring myself to call them "Apps" just yet ;) )

(There are no obvious instructions for the Win8 interface, one just has to play with it and eventually one finds that it actually works quite well)

But, I would like "Start" back on desktop! Saying it is "The same number of mouse clicks" using Metro completely ignores the fact that with "Start" they are all in the same part of the screen, not all over the place. I can see how metro would work well with a touch screen monitor or tablet but I (And many others) do not have one! and for non touch-screen (IMHO) trad Start is better most of the time.

At the same time, other claims about how easy it is to open files or start programs by just doing "Ctrl-whatever and start typing" What is this? Are we back to the CLI?? DOS for windows 2013!! :p

The whole point of a windows type interface is that it is primarily visual! I don't necessarily remember my programs "Names" just what they look like! I have spent the last "X" years or so getting accustomed to doing this visually. Having it suggested that I go back to remembering file names because there is no "Start" option is insane!

I would also like to see the the Win XP "Search Wizard" back too! I frequently have to search for text files that I can only partially remember the details for. Win 7/8 search routinely fails to find stuff I know is there! and it is not obviously customisable to find the stuff I want to find! :( "Search Wizard" did it every time! Why get rid of it?? :( (A bit like advanced joystick support in Games! Why get rid of it?? :( )

But Oh! My biggest gripe!

The program access control (Or whatever it is called) PLEASE can I have a little tab to say "It is always OK for this program, don't ask me again" I have a handful of regularly used programs that always bring up this box and it pains the ass right off me having to tick OK EVERY SINGLE TIME I want to run them! It seems the only way of having these permission boxes not to appear and interrupt/delay ones work is to turn it off for ALL programs! What were Microsoft thinking?!?!"

Other than that I like Win 8. It is much faster (particularly noticeable on older machines) and it is (Especially if you only have a non-pro version of Win 7) an absolute no-brainer to get the upgrade (IMHO)

Forget about the start menu and aero etc. It's gone.

I would like to see more general system options moved to the metro style UI.

Shutdown/restart button added to the user tile (it gives you the option to sign out, so it might as well)

Bigger tile sizes like you have on Windows Phone and more configurable (aesthetics wise) Start screen

Iron out some of those Storage Spaces bugs, arguably the biggest let down feature for me

Make app update information i.e. change logs mandatory and more visible. "Bug fixes and improvements" tells me nothing.

Allow you to 'pin' the start screen to a secondary monitor

Persistent clock option for Start screen for those who want it

More intelligent search and variable display of the results - a list view would be nice

Are you searching from Explorer? If you are you'll get the Search tab appear in the ribbon when you click in the Search box - which gives you all options you could need. If you need to search the contents of non-indexed files you can enable that from the Advanced options menu on the Search tab too.

The ability to properly multitask when using a metro app.

Currently it's possible to have a metro app open and use a desktop app provided there are no prompts, it's on a second screen and you already have it open. It's a damn pain in the rear end some times. If any of the conditions aren't met the metro app constantly disappears.

Bluray playback support.

An easy way to add extra storage to be seen as an extension to the system drive where user folders and program folders are set up with correct permissions automatically.

No white screen backgrounds in some apps whilst waiting for something to load, not restful on eyes.

Being able to relocate the users/public folder to hdd.

Support for multi file formats in wmp/wmc so you can have lossless tracks for local playback but still have mp3 for portable device sync without having to see duplicate tracks. There should be a desktop library mode which hides the equivalent mp3 duplicate.

Openness around Modern UI so competing tablet OS's can compete for use as alternative Modern UI's just as browsers compete.

Dynamically updating most used applications group of tiles for Start screen.

Desktop background as Start screen and do away with desktop shortcuts.

Better drive image capability in terms of compress efficiency.

Better linkage between desktop and Metro apps such as sharing. When you've found a file in desktop you should be able to right click & choose share with specific metro app and the UI pass you over to Metro app to complete the task.

When you install some games they seem to become part of a Games like control panel window which I forget how to get to but can't see the point of.

An easier way to manage 'all apps' shortcuts, like moving a shortcut to another group, renaming a group.

The system tray updates on mouse over hints too vigorously before you have a chance to read balloon text.

There are many improvements in the windows 8 desktop environment over windows 7 alone, never mind all the new metro stuff. if you are trying to suggest otherwise then you are wrong, of course.
That may well be, but you will never get me to agree that the modern ui is in any way an improvement over the start menu on a desktop PC, nor a laptop. On a tablet or slate, most likely, but not on a desktop, it is the single most factor in stopping me from upgrading.
