What would you like to see in Windows 8 SP1 or Windows 9?

No changes to start, that is only for luddites.
Return of Aero transparency.
Ability to pin items to different screens.

This might sound silly but all I want is the return of a full fat Aero Glass. I just think the solid colour windows look ugly in desktop applications

All of the initial teething problems I had with windows 8 have long since been resolved, although these were mostly user issues lol

I prefer Aero too... I don't know why but it just feels more "professional" when I'm on the desktop :p.

What I'm really hoping for though is better integration of both desktop and modern UI mode. The start screen is nice but I feel it's a bit of a mess, the only time I seem to be using it is when I turn on the PC (I seem to treat it more as a welcome screen now due to the handy live tiles) or when I'm locking the PC if I plan to be away for a bit. I would like the start menu back too, I feel more productive using it compared to the start screen.

Another thing that bugs me, is the poor support they seem to have with multiple monitors. There are some apps I want to run on one screen, but when I click on the desktop app on the other, it minimises the app .

Anyway, with Splashtop 2, I can stream this to my tablet with all the funky 8 gestures, and that seems to have given the start screen a bit more use to me.

The store needs updating, proper change logs and display them on the update page.

For those saying blue ray/DVD that won't happen their stats show its not used enough and if they include it they have to pay royalties, increasing the costs. So just pay tge royalties yourself and buy a suitable program.

They should have something for Blu-ray in the store though as an added extra, same as the media centre. Maybe Media Centre HD or some rubbish name like that.

Just a 'Microsoft DVD Player' in the store would have been enough. Charge a couple of quid to cover the license fee and away you go instead of mucking about with Pro Plus Pack upgrade keys or whatever it's called.

That may well be, but you will never get me to agree that the modern ui is in any way an improvement over the start menu on a desktop PC, nor a laptop. On a tablet or slate, most likely, but not on a desktop, it is the single most factor in stopping me from upgrading.

I find it no worse. I didnt really use the old start menu anyway and i dont really use the new start screen either, so functionally I have lost nothing moving to windows 8, but I have gained quite a few improvements. Getting hung up on an old menu and using that as an excuse not to upgrade is a real shame, to be honest.

You can add Shut Down ,Reboot yourself quite easy to do,

lol and think people used to laugh at linux users having to tinker with there OS to get functionality.

DX12 give gamers something more :) .

Double edged sword.

Yes to Dx12, no to having to buy another gpu. :(

Windows 8 is looking more and more like a flop, on the Desktop anyway.

As part of the set up sequence when you install the os, it shoud give you the options to turn on and off metro. Maybe even an option in the control panel (start up in metro mode, or start up in desktop mode)

Also the option to turn on and off start button.

I think with those options, everyone would be happy.

For the multi-user environment - to present the account login interface at startup instead of trying to automatically access the last account that was used.

There is absolutely northing offered by windows 8 to make me want or need to upgrade, why on earth should I bother moving from windows 7 when it does everything I need it to, upgrading for the sake of upgrading is just ridiculous.

To be honest I felt samething about Vista to Win7,only really offered some performance improvements and no real new features etc..however Win7 to Win8 is in a different league ie speed boost and new features, not to meantion awesome pricing, way better value then I got from Vista to Win7 etc... so basically a lot more then you got going from Vista to Win7.

Windows 7 on my machine isn't slow, it runs everything I need it to and I have never once felt like it was lagging and needed to be faster.

I have yet be shown a single reason to upgrade to windows 8.

You cite Metro as the factor that's stopping you from upgrading. If it's stopping you from upgrading, then you obviously see reasons to upgrade?

Honestly, I can't think of anything I want from SP1 except for proactive security patches.

Although, like many, with a non-touchscreen device I don't use the start screen much except for launching apps which aren't pinned to my taskbar already, even on a laptop running a T2400 first-gen Core Duo with 2 gig of RAM (and an SSD) it is absolutely rock solid stable and fast. With the legacy support Microsoft do offer, you can't ask for much more from an operating system really.

You were complaining about the start menu earlier, so that's a different argument. There's plenty to upgrade for at the price it is currently offered,IMO, and people have posted examples many times already, so you either havent seen these posts or you refuse to acknowledge them or something. You have to look at these changes and make your own mind up, but if you still don't want to upgrade then........don't? By the tone of your posts you would think people are trying to force you to buy windows 8 at gun point, but really I don't believe anybody cares what you decide Lol. Nobody has told you to upgrade for no reason.
