What would you like to see in Windows 8 SP1 or Windows 9?

at the moment, the only thing I really would change by default, is the start menu, which I just find easier to use than the start screen, beyond that there's not a lot that bothers me.
 
Just improve metro, as already said allow "pin" to a specific monitor.
3 tile sizes like wp8
Allow any placement of tiles, rather than the auto reshuffle to fill in gaps.
Further development of the included apps, although this is happening at a steady place. It seems a bit odd, relying on feedback, rather than just including the basics from the start.

That's a bout it for desktop, it's a great OS as is, and haven't had any issues so far.

Once I get a tablet, I expect I could include a whole host of tweaks/features.
 
For starters i'd have the option to disable Metro and Charms and bring back the Start Menu. I'd also put Aero back as I don't really see the point of putting it in for two releases and then taking it back out.

Blu-ray support in WMP/WMC would be great but I think even more unlikely than the Start Menu/Aero being put back.

Beyond that I don't have any other major issues with the OS - maybe making it as modular as possible so that I can uninstall everything I don't use in order to save space would be absolutely spot on, but that just will never ever happen.

I think the way Microsoft have nailed their colours to the mast means I won't be bothering with Windows 8 at all sadly. As much as i'd like to see it, I fear theheyes is right - Metro will be forced on us.
 
I've been using Windows 8 since release - and I've probably spent less than 10 minutes total seeing Metro - about the same amount of time in 3 months use of Windows 7 that I'd have had the Start menu up.

I think too many people are trying to use Metro just because it's there, rather than using your PC in the way you used to. For a desktop/laptop, yes, Metro isn't ideal - so don't use it unnecessarily. Use your desktop versions of software, and use it just like you used the Start menu - to load your desktop applications.

Can't think of much else either.

Boot to desktop is probably the main one at the moment. I had to install Classic Shell on my HTPC just to get this functionality so that MediaPortal wasn't sat behind the Modern UI.

Other than that, I'm quite happy with Windows 8 (especially for the price! :))

You can add Shut Down ,Reboot yourself quite easy to do,

The store needs updating, proper change logs and display them on the update page.


For those saying blue ray/DVD that won't happen their stats show its not used enough and if they include it they have to pay royalties, increasing the costs. So just pay tge royalties yourself and buy a suitable program.
 
Xbox controller integration. Being able to use my controller to navigate round. And also, bring integration among windows games and Xbox games so i can play online with friends that have Xbox.
 
Aero. I know part of it lives on, but it looks so bland in 8 compared with the sleek glass theme in 7.

Not too bothered about the start menu anymore. Got used to how 8 works in about 10 minutes.
 
Enhanced game control configuration for DirectX whereby you can pre-program keys for all the common gaming controls. Games that support it would then be able to hook into this interface to reduce the amount of manual configuration needed. So for example you'd be able to setup keys for the following and have them available in all games without needing to manually bind:

+forward
+back
+left
+right
primary fire
secondary fire
reload
crouch
jump
prone
sprint
grenade
inventory
melee
zoom
accelerate
brake
handbrake
change view
gear up
gear down
etc

Obviously depending on the game you'd have some further game-specific keys you might need to remap but at least the most common or 'core' functions would be predefined.
 
Just to add the option to choose between metro interface & desktop/classic start menu during install, that way those who like metro will like Windows 8 and those who like the classic ui will like Windows 8, everyone buys Windows 8 and it doesn't tank worse than Vista. Simples.

They've already lost huge market share, for not keeping up with competition.
Doing what you say would continue down that path, towards self destruction. They can't allow people to keep them in the past.
 
This might sound silly but all I want is the return of a full fat Aero Glass. I just think the solid colour windows look ugly in desktop applications

All of the initial teething problems I had with windows 8 have long since been resolved, although these were mostly user issues lol
 
has anyone tried to give end user support over the phone to a totally non technical user on Windows 8..... well its a total nightmare...!

i think they are using their near monopoly on the desktop market to force people to use this odd interface... in time you will get used to it so metro becomes the starndard for mobile devices...

any other company would jsut fail, but on a desktop you have no choice you must have w8...
