Whatever Happened to Flight Sims ?

Comanche 4 a sim? Black Shark should fill the void when it gets released.

OK, so it's an action game with you flying. But if you made it realistic no-one would get twenty feet without crashing.

What's wrong with Lock On Modern Air Combat?

I thought that was mostly/totally air-to-air? I only tried it one and the demo was so buggy I gave up.

I'd rather have a few quality titles rather than droves of unadulterated crap like most game genres any day.

Quoted for truth. :)

What? Most flight simulators are realistic.... they are.... simulators. If you want an arcade game, play Battlefield 2.

Nope. Also there is going to be a dedicated A-10 game under the DCS series after Black Shark is released.

MS Flight Sim has been great, up until FSX. Talk about promising more than they ever could deliver! The release of the "DX 10" screenies of artist impressions, what a bloody joke. Aces studio need to be crucified for the whole hype and the fake promises of FSX and the shout of it being totally DX 10 based.

The SP1 release did help quite a fair bit, but still for the amount of visual improvement that FSX offers over FS 2004 and compared to the leaps and bounds beforehand that every new release had, it is very disappointing. They didn't touch the AI and ATC handling and system, which is something that needs improving. All that time between the next release and they simply left it be. Alittle better out of the box visuals, with more generated buildings, airport vechiles, and cars on the road. I don't know what Aces were thinking when they wrote up their improvements list.

I'd say fsx is the most disappointing release of the MS flight sim series.

I was actually thinking this the otherday.. I had a right hankering for a new Jet Fighter flight sim, stumbled across my old sidewinder joystick.. seems the newest one i could find was Lock-On Air combat!

Was a real giggle playing Combat Flight Sim with a good force-feedback joystick bolted to the desk :D

b) A good air-to-ground attack sim - the old A10-based one from about 1997 was a hoot, but never followed.

lol i bought that for a laugh for my bro like 3 years ago for crimbo cos he loved that game but only ever had the demo, best pound ever spent great game:D

Anyone ever play the old Apache vs Havoc game? I got that in a budget bundle at some stage, best heli sim I played since the original Comanche.

During campaigns I'm exclusively Allied (mostly British) - play Axis sometimes during intermission, love the Stuka! I play ground mostly (Captain rank I think), but have enough rank in air to fly everything.

Love the H2B on the British side, those 8 MGs really tear up the Stukas. :D

110 are pretty good for you as you get them in the first tier and we have nothing to counter your cannons. Have you ever tried to bring down a 110 with a Hurri? May as well open the canopy and throw gravel at you. :)

I've been a subscriber to WWII Online for six years now but I mainly play on the ground (Allied). Some of my best experiences though has been playing as a bombardier/tail gunner on a large bombing run. Love doing that. Let the pilot do all the work while I sit back with my feet up ;)

As the thread title says really .......

I was always a flight sim enthusiast. Bought just about every one that came out. Spent years flying Crimson Skies online in what was one of the best online gaming communities I have ever been involved with. There are still some diehards playing it on Gamespy despite it being the best part of 10 years old now !

Oh man I used to love Crimson Skies what a fantastic game! never thought of seeing if there was a multiplayer community thou :(
