Whats EVE like?

I think you're still thinking like a full time player. You're not going to be able to afford faction fittings with just casual play. You certainly won't be rich enough to risk them in battle. And without a lot of time and risk you won't get good enough at PvP that you're not making constant losses.

As far a combat is concerned, the casual thing is a myth.

I did say if you have the isk.;)

The thing about casual play is that their pvp would be casual to. Its not as if they would sit for hour at gates or stations and if they stuck to frigates it would not be to hard to support the pvp loses. Some pve would support them or industry. That would all change if they join a corps in 0.0 but then they wouldn't be playing casualy anylonger.

I tried the trial and started to get into it...a bit.

I may get flammed for this but my problem with the game is that you dont really pilot your ship - I wanted to sit in the cockpit and control my ship with a joystick and fire the lazers with a big trigger :D. Pointing and clicking and telling the auto pilot to do things took away fun for me. Made it more of a tycoon style game than a space sim.

Why dont they just remake elite and make it multiplayer?

From playing Eve for 4 years or so I think adding this kind of input to it now would be horrible :p. I suppose as you say it's more of a "tycoon" style game as opposed to space sim.

sure, i dont think adding it now would work. The size of the game and the community is certainly impressive and i'm sure it is great once you get into it - I was just hoping for something different i think.

When i was younger i loved Privateer 2 and the Wing Commander series, so was hoping for something similar but with multiplayer.

maybe one day! :)

Eve is where the griefers and bullies that get banned from other MMOs go to retire. If you like scamming people and get off on the prospect of making people quit the game by blowing up their worldly possessions just because you can - you'll love it.

It's the most hardcore MMO I've come across which is a blessing and a curse really... it's a victim of it's own game design and seems destined to maintain only a relatively low subscriber base simply because of how harsh it is to newbies. Of course people who are already all-powerful or are otherwise griefers by nature anyway think this is a good thing - "the less noobs playing the better".

Strange game really all things considered.

good idea as a game but really slow and boring for me.

i would rate the game u could play it if u realy busy playing it 4 hours straight u will just fall a sleep. would be great game for part time few times a week login on f it was free to play

Boring if u don't have the patience for it. Although since eve is ever evolviing, you could hate it now but love it a year on.

Like most EVE players, I'm now addicted to it after sticking with the trial. You can learn the skills (10hr) when you are at work or asleep. You don't need to log in to learn the skills!
This is one game where it is a second job/life, you have to look after your character and your ships well, otherwise you can lose them all. Unlike WoW where you respawn as a ghost, when you lose your ship it is gone. You will respawn with the basic crappy frigate and quickly fly-in and save your cargo (if it survived the attack or not stolen), or buy a new shiny ship and equipment if you have the money. It is a harsh lesson I've had to learn after losing 2 Thrasher destroyers.
People comment the arena to be empty... On most occasions I have found other players mining in safe areas or ratting for npc loot. Recently, I stumbled across an asteroid field with dead pirates. I asked the miner if I could aquire the loot (if I robbed the loot, it is open season by that player to attack me). There are times I have seen players attacking each other, boosting their notoriety status. A gentle reminder that in 0.9 sec space, you are not always safe.
I have yet to see the mighty Titan ships or venture into 0.0 space.
I have made my first ISK2Million, rejoiced and then pushed on to get me the better skills I need to buy that better bit of equipment.
I have played WoW, but it felt repetitve after a few months, each area the same despite the endless grind to that next level. With EVE, when you join a corporation you feel that you are contributing to the world by either influencing the market, building supplies or running errands.....
I'm hooked...

Eve is the sort of game thats more fun to read about (politics/drama) than to actually play.

Reading the stories on the forums makes we want to play all the time but then I get into the game and get distracted. Then again, it was only 2 weeks ago and I was saying I was bored.

Aw go on! Go on! Go on!
You know it makes sense....
Feel the force....
If it itches? You have to scratch it...
Do it! Yeah man, do it!

I've played EVE for about 6 months.

In all honesty, it is a pretty slow and boring game. Travelling is tedious, there's no real skill involved, gaining ISK is usually an utterly boring unrewarding process, there are about 10 different star system backgrounds that just repeat over and over and over, everything just looks the same. If you're a new player, it's very daunting and boring when making your first few ISK. Combat is just a matter of turning the ships modules on and then watching and hoping the other guy gets destroyed first..

The good points, the game has a good strong community, fleet battles are pretty fun.. errr can't think of anymore.

Both my accounts have expired now. No desire to resubscribe for another month of "should I stay or should i go now?".

there's no real skill involved

Oh. My. God.

This is the problem with Eve. The game in Empire space is TOTALLY different from the lawless 0.0 game. A lot of players never see the real meat of the game and go away with the narrow view that is missions, mining and trading in empire.

It's the most skillful mmo on the planet, by a long, long way.
