Hama backpack - it's a squeeze

I have a Swiss Army knife in my pocket at all times, and ive found it very useful when out with my camera. Improvisation is what its all about for me, if it suddenly starts raining I can easily make a makeshift camera+lens cover out of anything (a thick plastic bag for instance) i remember reading about a guy sellotaping filters in place when he stripped the thread whilst on a shoot.

For everyone with a backpack, do you have the camera in with the lens pointing down? Most pictures i've seen of bags are with the body/lens in pointing down, but i was wondering if there was more of a danger of damaging the lens etc, if you should put it down sharply etc.? I have a Tamrac Adventure 7 and a D50 with kit lens. It seems to fit more nicely pointing down, and is also useful to check whether or not you've knocked the power on (as the buttons/screen is facing up) -- but is it risky?

Nice idea... any chance of a quick photo of the bag with some of the kit? Thanks!

Hey....unfortunately not, I broke my pc :( Had to come all the way to uni just to use the internet...havent been on here in a couple of weeks!

*sits and waits by the 'checkout' button while student loan comes through*

new pc next week hopefully! tis just your average backback really, i can comfortable fit my a4 pad in it vertically with some space at the top, as well as my journal, spare clothes, camera gear, food and drink...was only £9.99 :)

its less obvious than a camera bag too....less tempting to theiving little chavs! :)

No worries! Didn't realise it was a backback - thought you meant some sort of messenger-style bag. I'll probably take a look next time I'm in town.

Wow! Is this some willy waving thread or what?

Wouldn't catch me willy waving. No way! Not me. Not at all.
