Whats it like around Manchester?

The current halls I have choose to have a look at are in:

victoria park
Dantzic Street
Lower Chatham street
Corporation Street.

Depends where you go doesn't it. Manchester is a huge City. Huge city scum crime happens yes but then again bad things happen in small towns. It pays to be careful I guess.

I never had any bother when I lived in the centre of Manchester and then Chorlton but I know plenty of people who were mugged and one person who suffered an aborted car jacking (fortunately the car was locked when they jumped her at the lights and she drove off).

The crime problems Manc has are the same as with any other large City like Leeds, Birmingham, London. Don't ride a decent bike unless you have somewhere safe to store it because they do get pinched for sport. I would say in terms of crime however, that biking is probably safer than walking. Not sure about the road safety aspec tho..

Dantzic Street is next to corporation st, lower chatham street is over near oxford road and victoria park is further out, it would be a bit longer ride from there, but not much different in terms of the roads you had to go down

Well I found accommodation on Dantzic street in the end, its secure, on site staff within working ours, rent is £74 a week with insurace included, its not en suite but its got big rooms and kitchen and all that, internet is 5 quid a week for 10mb internet thats the only downside you HAVE TO use the internet they are putting in but oh well, going to move in about 3 weeks before more course starts to get used to manchester and do abit of job hunting.

I'm looking forward to it should be a good experience, the last place I seen was a **** hole just round the corner god help the people in that place :\

The place around Dantzic street dont look too bad, bit rough in places by looks of it but hoping I'll be ok, apparently only time they ad real trouble was when they had a drug dealer in who was selling stuff on other dealers turf and they got the front door kicked in but he got kicked out after he was found doing dealingz like that.

I have to cycle about 3.8miles to college but on any majour junctions I'll just jump off the bike and use the crossing. Hopefully people will be orite in the same flat as me and hopefully some people to hang around with.

I did my CBT at a place along Dantzic street in 95. I doubt it's changed much around there

Excellent location for hitting the town centre.
