Just a simple question, what's it worth?

Bought July 2007, applecare till July 1010.
2.4ghz, 2gb, stock 160gb HDD, matte screen (no yellow problems or dead pixels). US keyboard layout (which I personally prefer).

Has this tiny dent, and the bottom of it has taken a dislike to my desk!
Tiger, iLife 06 (could put 08 on aswell).

if I do decide to sell, it'd be for a new MBP.....

Two ways of checking;

1) http://buy.ebay.co.uk/macbook-pro, click MacBook Pro and then view completed listings.

Yea thought of that, but wanted peoples opinions after seeing my previous thread about the tiny lil' dent (though I guess lots of eBay ones wouldn't be admitting any dents etc!)

Yup, thought of that too, but figured that all the mac peeps stay up here instead of venturing down there, so would get more accurate responses here...

Other question, I guess I'd be able to transfer the remaining AppleCare to the new owner?

Not a problem to transfer Applecare mate as far as I have heard.

Regardless of Applecare however - simply because it isn't a UK model, has slight damage, not the latest OS and with the newer and higher specced model now out at £1299 I don't think you will get anything like £1200 for it. I would think £1050 realistically, with anything more than that being a nice surprise for you !

Hmmm thanks.

Anyone know anything more about applecare transfers?
Also, should I include with it the original receipt? (or isn't that needed?, because I bought other stuff at the same time that I'm not selling).

Also, anywhere else other than here (MM) and eBay that'd be good? (Obviously want to avoid scammers!)

I've transfered AppleCare plenty of times.

Get your cover email (that Apple send you a few weeks after the machine), write down the details of the buyer and write a short letter to Apple.

Tell them you've sold the machine, provide your details, include a copy of the invoice and finally the person's details who it is being transferred to.

I wouldn't worry about scammers on eBay, just list it with no international delivery, and add immediate payment via PayPal if you're particularly worried.

I have Apple items on eBay at the moment, only been stung 1/10 times.

You don't really need to transfer it over. I was reading from someone who claimed to be an Apple engineer/store worker and they said that when someone comes in with a machine, they check the serial and if the person doesn't match the person registered - they open a new account under that serial.

Whether that's still the case now or not I don't know but it shouldn't be a big issue.
