Keep up with the competition? There isn't any. What exists are loads of half-baked clones that think banging a million features in the phone with some kind of touch screen makes an iPhone "killer"

Sure the iPhone has issues but for sheer usability nothing comes close, all in my not so humble opinion, of course. :p

It's not a compromise though?

I don't use MMS, had it for years- probably used it twice ever? Plus with the internet being soo good on the iphone it's not needed.

No Flash, like I said- NEVER come across a website so far that I can't get on.

Camera, again- had phones with better cameras. Has never caused an issue, does the job. If I want to take a good picture i'll take my digital camera.

Slimmer? It's fine as it is, any smaller and build quality would probably be sacrificed.

Cut and paste/forwarding of text message. I've probably forwarded a text message once in my entire life? Cut and paste, again I can live without.

Can you see how the features you are talking about aren't important to most people?

I'd rather have a phone that is enjoyable to use (and when jailbroken gets around most of your negative points).

I'm not a fanboy, i've been running windows mobile for over 3 years now so feel I can compare.

yes the iphone is usable (when im not drunk :p) but if it wasnt for jailbreaking i wouldnt have even considered it. My 2g doesnt have 3g, and the 3g has a ****-poor batterlife. i held up updating my original firmware until last week, and in doing so my battery life has got worse and texting is...frustrating to say the least. if i didnt have it jailbroken, i wouldnt have mms, i wouldnt be able to theme it....in fact you can pretyt much do naff all with them.


yes, usuable they may well be, but too many people are deluded in to thinking more features would have harmed that usability.

im sorry but LOL? you arent most people, and believe me - you dont represent the general public in not wanting those features either.

All they've done is create an "ok" home screen which nicks ideas from the iPhone. Windows 6.1 is still dated and looks like it's running windows 3.1. It's not attractive and it a pain to use.

a lot of people have complained about the speed of touch pros etc... too.

Can you see the average person going nuts over no copy and paste? Get a grip mate :)

<99% of users> Flash, what's flash? :D

Remember you get a pretty much full iPod too, which appeals to a lot of people over some windows mobile with a crappy mp3 app etc...

I didn't say the interface was better, he asked me to show him a phone with a 3.5" touch screen that was thinner than the iPhone. I did.

All I was doing was listing improvements that I feel Apple should make to the iPhone in order to keep it up to date, like I said before why would you not want all these features and the excellent GUI?

My iPod Touch 2G is excellent but it could be improved upon, there are definitely changes I would make to the next one. But of course I forgot where I was posting, all reasoning goes out the window the second someone suggests an Apple product isn't perfect.

Also, as for flash... well, lots of websites with video can't be used unless they have a version designed specifically for the iPhone/iPod Touch. It's annoying.

how many iphones do you see around? now how many people do you see with n95s? ok then;) i have both by the way and no, i dont use the ipod feature on my iphone.

get a grip? you can cut the insults out. Thats a poor way to voice your opinion even for a child.

really? how much of the general public buy phones on the strength of the camera these days? a LOT of them.
 
I don't get this incredulous reaction to the idea of taking pictures with the phone camera. Unless you're some kind of photography nerd that carries a camera at all times, the phone is the difference between getting a photo or having nothing, so of course you want the quality to be as good as possible. And the iPhone is currently at the dire end of the scale.

Have a look around the next to see how well the iPhone sells if you want to get picky :)

N95? It's cheap and not really a decent comparision.

Saying "get a grip" isn't particually insulting nor is it a poor way to voice my opinion. I think my other points do that.

It has always been the way for iphone owners, and indeed apple owners in general (not all of them of course). the general attitude is 'who cares what it doesnt do when what it does do is done so well?'. they forget of course that they are by no means average Joe but hey if they dont want a feature then it obviously isnt needed....right? :o

its a phone, you can compare them just fine. my iphone has a lovely screen - my n95 is poor. my n95 has a pretty good camera, my iphone is awful. Both perfectly good comparisons.

Well to be fair that is kind of true?

If I don't need a feature... then well ... erm it isn't needed (for me).

The iPhone of course would be better "all round" if it had all of those features. That's obvious.

if you dont need it then you dont need it. if i didnt want MMS then i wouldnt miss it. but i would still agree thats its a feature that should have been there from the start because thats what joe public wants. That's where you and i differ. Why you cant see that i dont know?

Finally, you get it :) people like all round phones. thats why certain nokia's and SE's are so good even if they dont have the sparkle and wow factor of the iphone the first time you use it.

Now it seems everyone wants a phone to do everything, it's getting pretty ridiculous.

You will never get a perfect phone, it will always have something missing and someone is going to complain about something.

At the end of the day you buy a phone to make phone calls.
 
Ok, the iPhone doesn't hasn't got any competitors now but who says that won't change? The GUI is fantastic and the interface is superb but who knows a wonder phone may come from elsewhere.
