seems a bit pointless

you have like 7 threads or more indie open then at top of this section you have a indie sticky  makes no sense

why not just stick all indie stuff in sticky ? isnt that what its for ? if it isnt and each indie game has a section then whats the point of the sticky :p

I'd prefer that we have the separate threads and have the current sticky just as a normal thread tbh.

Separate threads are great as they raise awareness more. Additional stickies are unnecessary though.

This tbh.

I rarely go in the big thread because I've no idea what's being discussed from the outside, and don't really want to trawl through pages to find what interests me, but there's loads of indie games I'm interested in.

Indie game's should have their own thread, most of them are bigger to me (and others) than loads of the crappy AAAs. They deserve discussion in their own threads as much as any other game.

The sticky is a central location for all [indie] games that have threads. Its easier to look thru the list, in case you can't remember the name in the original thread for the search function.

The separate [indie] threads are created to notify people of new games, and to let people talk about them. As many are also kickstarter projects and have frequent updates.

It would be a nightmare to keep all the different [indie] game updates posted in the single sticky. Also, its quite easy to miss any new [indie] games that get reported/added if it was just in the sticky thread.

Neil79 does a great job of managing the sticky, and collating the different [indie] threads that are created from many different people.

Dg is just trolling as usual and if anyone else wants to know, DG has constantly asked me in steam chat to post the same thing on his forum ( indie/database) for which i have said no, because of the member base and other reasons.

But on topic basicaly what the members have said above ( thanks for that ) are spot on!

The sticky is just that it's a database, it's a database of all the indie games posted on ocuk by either me or someone else. It's also very helpful for anyone on twitter and other forums to scroll through the database for the relevant interests. It has served the forum well for a while now as it's easy to use and to locate the genre of interest for the person viewing the forum. GAME THREAD LINK - GAME TYPE - GENRE

The problem with a single thread is with lots of games to discuss it becomes messy and rather difficult to notify others of updates, i've done it before it does not work. The separate indie/retro threads are as the person above said are created to notify people of the latest releases and people can talk about that release specific to it's own thread. When that thread has run it's course it drops way off the pages but it's always kept in the database for people to refer to also without having people to search. Another great thing with the specific threads is, I or someone else can update it ( NEW VERSION/ PATCH ) e.t.c without affecting the main database and it lets people know that that thread something new has happened.

So basically

It's easier for me and easier for others
Looks neater and the database is a great ref for new members, old members, twitter and other forums.

It's also been stickied since 19th Feb 2012, 12:46, why change what works? it doesn't take anything from the forum if anything i feel it's a great addition. Also regarding this thread, adding it to this would mean another loophole to get to the database!, it's better to be for all to see when they first visit the forum :)

I'd personally like a link to the current sticky to be added to this thread and then for it to be de-stickied. Apart from that I think the current setup is great.

Stickies are pointless for anything but forum rules, and even then people rarely check them.

Both myself and Neil79 have stated the constructive reasons why its a great idea and why it works.

All you can offer to say against is its "pointless" and "people rarely checks them"?.

anything i say is trolling  (this is what neil uses to try to dilute my response to anything ;) )

neil you have indie threads open then a indie sticky  makes no sense to have both . why have stickies about a game then have separate threads aswell .

like having the main bf3 thread then a sticky at top about bf3 :p .

im all for indie threads on here but why have stickies about something you have threads about anyway.

no one is saying stop with indie just why is it how it is now and could it be better or less cluttered in the pc section .

Well I use the [indie] sticky, so that's +1 more than nobody.

Well for example the other day

I scrolled to the top, clicked on the indie database then looked for strategy games and finally OpenIG. Why did i do that?, because i wanted to update the OpenIG ( imperium galactica ) separate thread because a brand new beta version had been released and all i had to do was scroll...visit subsection...visit the thread, update thread.

This is another reason why it works so well

Because it's the type of person you are DG, but anyway it's been clearly explained with constructive points

BF3 is not relevant to this and doesn't give basis to your criticism

neil you dont even know me  you just assume im trolling . this is your fault . judging a internet persona as what im or someone else in real life is quite idiotic .

bf3 is relevant as it is a pc game in a pc section which this whole thing is about.

I do know you, I know how you are on steam i know what you say about other people on BF3 then tell me not to say anything, i know what you said against marker and his server. You say one thing on steam then another on the forum, but that's a different issue.

so u using the sticky ?

Of cause and the separate threads, not just to update the sticky.. The sticky is also posted a number of times on other forums, updated on twitter and has been posted on the front page of other websites in the past.

It's fine as it is and doesn't need changing, until such time when it actually hurts the forum then something will need to be done. Plus it's something i really enjoy doing and it makes people happy in so many ways. Take that away and it's just all back to normal :(

If you can't understand that having an indie sticky is smart because it...

Allows people to chat about indie games that aren't popular enough to warrant a dedicated thread.

Allows people to find the indie games that do have threads so they don't have to wade through all of the chat about other indie games.

Keeps the forum less cluttered which is what you seem to be arguing for.

Example: MMO sticky for general MMO talk and the smaller less-popular MMOs. Imagine if we said no dedicated game threads for MMOs. Well now we've got WoW, Tera, SWtOR, GW2, GW, Eve Online etc chat in one thread. Good luck following what's going on.

.

I know we had our minor disagreement in one thread but again another member who is basically supportive of the current setup Thanks Kamway. It just works and other ways have been tried in the past, it really doesn't it makes an all out mess

no i understand why its done but im just saying if it was any other title other than a indie game it wouldnt be as it is .

is that clueless ?

as said this is a pc section not indie section ;)

lets make stickies for every other title in this section then create new threads about same game . anyway out cause all indie heads will rinse and repeat. doesnt matter. wasting my time .
