My borther sits in front of his laptop all day at work and I'm sure that they is a law which means he should be supplied with a certain monitor size etc etc.

Am I right and what is the Act called?

Thanks All

As far as I know there's nothing on screen size, just 15 minutes eye rest after 60mins work. But you only entitled to that if your job is 100% at the computer, if you have to awnser the phone or anything else, the company don't have to give it to you.

Chances are it will be under the 1992 Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations (DSE Regulations) which sits under the big daddy of workplace good practice or maybe I should say minimum standards the 1974 Health and Safety at Work Act (HSW Act).

I'm not sure if there are limits or recommendations on screen sizes without looking but your brother is certainly entitled to breaks away from the screen, so he could be doing paper based tasks instead. :)

I think thats what I was told about. I've never read it but thought there were limits on screen. 15inch probably being the minimum.

I know about the 15mins rest allowed and like someone said early I think he does that and goes to do some paper work or make a cuppa :)

Why would 15" be the minimum, when the text on such a screen is actually larger at 1024x768 than the text on a 17" or 19" monitor is at 1280x1024. Ditto widescreen monitors which might have a large area but don't have large text at the native resolution.

Whinging office puffs again  ;)

LOL.

Back in the day, (puffs on pipe) we used to work on 320x200 screens and 640x480 in mono, or colour on 10, 12 amd 14" screens. Try doing CAD all day on a early 14" CRT. You won't be complaining about a lovely TFT screen which is far easier on your eyes.

tbh there is no minimum as it is down to how productive your co want you to be
but it must be easily viewable etc and he's gonna be able to have eye tests etc if he uses it all day.

tbh I plugged a 15'' CRT in today (just in my office out of my spairs) to check a graphics card
it was a green screen!
