Whats the best 1TB HDD

Other way for me - I tend to build PCs (small business servers ) and so far i've had no F1 fail out of 30 builds (i tend to use these now as preference) ,4 WD's (various models) fail in 50 and I don't use seagate or Hitachi/IBM at all as just too many hassles over the years

Any bad sectors though? I've got 3 WD internal drives and 2 external. I've had one for around 4 years, two for nearly 2 years, one of my externals for around 3 years and my latest a month, and you know what, all at 100% health reporting 0 bad sectors.
Oh, personally, I think it's bad to wack Samsung drives in servers.

So bassically these Samsung Spinpoint drives are pants then :(

I've been hanging around quite a lot in the hard drives section of this forum, and if I were to put an estimate on hard drive feedback, my estimate would be about 1/3 of people reporting problems with Samsung drives, about 1/5 reporting problems with Seagate/Hitachi drives and Axil is the 2nd person I've seen on this forum reporting problems with WD drives. Look at the stats.

I would normally agree on WD being reliable but after having a 250gb passport fail on my twice even after its been replaced with new one from WD im not so sure on them now.
Im also thinking more towards external as i can carry around and keep heating down inside case too.

Well ultimately, hard drives are mechanical so some will inevitably fail or will be DOA. I've recently had a 1tb WD elements with bad sectors, returned it and bought a 1tb My book which is at 100% health.
In your case, you must've had a bad batch, but I'd be prepared to bet 50 quid that if you bought a WD drive now, it'd be fine. That's how much confidence I have in WD.

What about Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB any good or not ?
Clicky

We had a 250GB Maxtor drive fail in my bro's computer rma it got sent a Seagate Barracuda 250Gb :) which i've heard there drives are meant to be good.

You won't regret it. I've only seen one person on this forum who had to RMA a Caviar Black out of loads of people who own them.

Get up to 250 posts and OCUK will give you free shipping. Look at the top right of your screen. :)

Ive had samsung and western digital, the western digital just "feel" faster, dont know why.

Probably because the WD still works. :D Sorry couldn't resist.

Not sure if i sure load everything all on the 1TB hmmm
coz i'll be putting windows 7 on it or i might use my WD 500GB drive which i use for storage atm

Edit: only at 100 posts :(

Yeah that'd work fine, however it might be worth looking at an SSD such as this for your OS and games, and your WD large capacity drives for media.

Yeah, it's taken me about 3 months to get up to 250 posts. :D
